WHATEVER WE ASK, WE RECEIVE FROM HIM

THE WORDS OF TRUTH DAILY DEVOTIONAL
Jan 10th, 2026

𝕋𝕀𝕋𝕃𝔼:
WHATEVER WE ASK, WE RECEIVE FROM HIM

KEY VERSE

“And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.”1 John 3:22 (NKJV)

DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE

This powerful statement is not a blank cheque for selfish desires; it is a covenantal promise rooted in relationship, obedience, faith, and alignment with God’s will.

God is not obligated by human demands; rather, He responds to hearts that walk with Him, trust Him, and live to please Him.

Prayer is not merely about asking, it is about abiding.

When we abide in Christ, our desires are purified, our motives refined, and our requests synchronized with heaven’s agenda.

Many believers struggle with unanswered prayers not because God is unwilling, but because conditions of intimacy, obedience, forgiveness, faith, and righteousness are ignored.

Heaven answers prayers that are born from fellowship, not frustration.

To “receive whatever we ask” is to live in such spiritual alignment that what we ask already reflects what God wants to do.

BIBLICAL OBJECTIVES OF THIS TRUTH

  1. To establish confidence in prayer (1 John 5:14)

  2. To cultivate obedience as a lifestyle (John 14:21)

  3. To align human desires with God’s will (Psalm 37:4)

  4. To deepen intimacy with the Father (John 15:7)

  5. To develop faith that produces results (Mark 11:24)

  6. To eliminate doubt and double-mindedness (James 1:6–7)

  7. To purify motives in prayer (James 4:3)

  8. To activate spiritual authority (Luke 10:19)

  9. To reveal God as a faithful Father (Matthew 7:11)

  10. To glorify God through answered prayers (John 14:13)

CHARACTERISTICS OF THOSE WHO RECEIVE WHAT THEY ASK

  1. They abide in Christ (John 15:7)

  2. They walk in obedience (1 John 3:22)

  3. They pray according to God’s will (1 John 5:14)

  4. They forgive others (Mark 11:25)

  5. They ask in faith (Hebrews 11:6)

  6. They have pure motives (James 4:3)

  7. They walk in righteousness (Psalm 34:15)

  8. They persist in prayer (Luke 18:1)

  9. They trust God’s timing (Ecclesiastes 3:11)

  10. They seek God’s glory, not self-glory (John 14:13)

ILLUSTRATIONS

1. The Key and the Door

A man stood before a locked door praying loudly for it to open, unaware that the key was already in his pocket.
Lesson:

Many prayers fail not because God has not answered, but because obedience, the key, has been ignored.

2. The Child and the Father

A loving father refused his child’s request for a sharp object, not out of wickedness but wisdom.
Lesson:

God’s refusal is often protection, and His delay is preparation.

CALL TO REPENTANCE

God answers prayers flowing from a clean heart.

If our lives contradict our prayers, heaven remains silent.

Today is a call to return, not merely to prayer, but to right living.

DEEP REPENTANCE

Lord, we acknowledge that many times we:

  • asked without aligning,
  • prayed without obeying, and
  • demanded without surrendering.

We repent of treating prayer as a tool rather than a relationship.

PRAYER OF REPENTANCE

Father,

I confess my sins before You.

I repent of disobedience, unbelief, impure motives, unforgiveness, and self-will.

Wash me in the blood of Jesus.

Restore my fellowship with You.

Create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me.

I turn back to You completely, in Jesus’ name.

Amen.

HYMN

Sweet Hour of Prayer

1. Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
that calls me from a world of care,
and bids me at my Father's throne
make all my wants and wishes known.
In seasons of distress and grief,
my soul has often found relief,
and oft escaped the tempter's snare
by thy return, sweet hour of prayer!

2. Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
the joys I feel, the bliss I share
of those whose anxious spirits burn
with strong desires for thy return!
With such I hasten to the place
where God my Savior shows his face,
and gladly take my station there,
and wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

3. Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
thy wings shall my petition bear
to him whose truth and faithfulness
engage the waiting soul to bless.
And since he bids me seek his face,
believe his word, and trust his grace,
I'll cast on him my every care,
and wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!
