THE WORDS OF TRUTH DAILY DEVOTIONAL

𝕋𝕀𝕋𝕃𝔼:
WE KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS
KEY VERSE
“And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because We keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.” — 1 John 3:22 (NKJV)
DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE
The statement “We keep His commandments” is not merely a confession of belief but a declaration of allegiance, love, and transformed living.
Christianity is not proven by what we claim but by what we obey.
Obedience is the visible evidence of an invisible faith.
Jesus did not lower the standard of God’s commandments; He fulfilled and internalized them.
Under the New Covenant, obedience flows from a regenerated heart, empowered by the Holy Spirit, not fear, legalism, or religious performance.
To keep His commandments means:
To align our will with God’s will
To submit daily to Christ’s lordship
To live out truth consistently, even when inconvenient
Disobedience, no matter how spiritual it sounds, is rebellion clothed in excuses.
God is not seeking admirers of His Word but doers of it.
BIBLICAL OBJECTIVES OF KEEPING HIS COMMANDMENTS
To demonstrate genuine love for God (John 14:21)
To walk in intimacy and fellowship with Christ (John 15:10)
To reflect God’s nature and holiness (1 Peter 1:15–16)
To live a life that pleases God (Colossians 1:10)
To walk in spiritual authority and victory (Luke 11:28)
To experience divine guidance and clarity (Psalm 119:105)
To bear lasting spiritual fruit (John 15:16)
To silence the accusation of hypocrisy (James 1:22)
To prepare for eternal reward (Matthew 25:21)
To glorify God before men (Matthew 5:16)
CHARACTERISTICS OF THOSE WHO KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS
ILLUSTRATIONS
1. The Signed Contract
A man signs a contract but refuses to follow its terms.
Though his signature is genuine, his actions nullify the agreement.
Lesson:
Confessing Christ without obeying Him is spiritual fraud.
2. The Lamp and the Switch
A house has electricity installed, but the switch is never turned on.
Lesson:
God’s power is available, but obedience activates it.
Disobedience keeps believers in darkness despite divine provision.
CALL TO REPENTANCE
Many believers honor God with words while dishonoring Him with lifestyle choices.
Delayed obedience is disobedience.
Selective obedience is rebellion.
God is calling us back, not to religion, but to submission.
DEEP REPENTANCE (HEART EXAMINATION)
Ask yourself:
Where have I redefined obedience to suit my comfort?
Which command of God have I postponed or ignored?
Do I obey God when no one is watching?
True repentance is not regret, it is surrender.
PRAYER OF REPENTANCE
Father,
I acknowledge that I have often chosen convenience over obedience.
I confess my disobedience, excuses, and self-will.
Cleanse my heart, renew my mind, and restore in me a spirit that delights in Your commandments.
I turn fully to You today, in Jesus’ name.
Amen.

HYMN
Trust and ObeyJohn H. Sammis (1887)
1. When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.
Refrain:
Trust and obey,
for there's no other way
to be happy in Jesus,
but to trust and obey.
2. Not a burden we bear,
not a sorrow we share,
but our toil he doth richly repay;
not a grief or a loss,
not a frown or a cross,
but is blest if we trust and obey.
3. But we never can prove
the delights of his love
until all on the altar we lay;
for the favor he shows,
for the joy he bestows,
are for them who will trust and obey.
4. Then in fellowship sweet
we will sit at his feet,
or we'll walk by his side in the way;
what he says we will do,
where he sends we will go;
never fear, only trust and obey.
TODAY’S CHALLENGE
Identify one command of God you have delayed.
Obey it today, fully, joyfully, and without negotiation.
DEEP REFLECTION
Obedience may cost you comfort, reputation, or convenience, but disobedience costs intimacy, authority, and eternal reward.
WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

The grace that saves you is the same grace that enables you to obey.
