THOSE WHO HATE OTHERS ARE MURDERERS!

THE WORDS OF TRUTH DAILY DEVOTIONAL
Dec 21st, 2025

𝕋𝕀𝕋𝕃𝔼:
THOSE WHO HATE OTHERS ARE MURDERERS!

KEY VERSE

“Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him.”
1 John 3:15 (NIV)

DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE

This statement is shocking because it moves murder from the hand to the heart.

Jesus and the apostles consistently taught that God judges not only actions but motives, attitudes, and inner dispositions (Matthew 5:21–22).

Hatred is murder in seed form.

It may never spill blood, but it destroys relationships, poisons the soul, and erodes spiritual life.

Hatred kills:

John’s warning is eternal in scope:

Hatred is incompatible with eternal life abiding within.

One cannot claim intimacy with God while nurturing contempt for people made in God’s image (1 John 4:20).

This devotion calls us to sober self-examination, repentance, and transformation by the love of Christ.

BIBLICAL OBJECTIVES OF THIS TEACHING

  1. To expose the spiritual danger of hidden hatred (1 John 3:15)
  2. To realign believers with God’s standard of love (John 13:34–35)
  3. To protect the heart from spiritual corruption (Proverbs 4:23)
  4. To restore broken relationships through forgiveness (Matthew 18:21–22)
  5. To uproot bitterness before it bears destructive fruit (Hebrews 12:15)
  6. To cultivate Christlike character (Philippians 2:5)
  7. To preserve fellowship with God (1 John 1:6–7)
  8. To prevent self-deception in faith (James 1:22)
  9. To prepare believers for eternal life (Matthew 5:8)
  10. To make love the defining mark of discipleship (John 13:35)

CHARACTERISTICS OF HATRED

  1. Spiritually lethal – It nullifies claims to eternal life (1 John 3:15)
  2. Rooted in darkness – Hatred blinds moral judgment (1 John 2:9–11)
  3. Breeds violence – As seen in Cain (Genesis 4:5–8)
  4. Blocks prayerUnforgiveness hinders communion with God (Mark 11:25)
  5. Corrupts speech – Hatred leaks through words (James 3:9–10)
  6. Destroys unity – It fractures the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:31–32)
  7. Invites demonic influence – Anger gives the devil a foothold (Ephesians 4:26–27)
  8. Hardens the heart – Leads to spiritual numbness (Hebrews 3:12–13)
  9. Opposes Christ’s natureJesus is love incarnate (1 John 4:8)
  10. Disqualifies true worship – God rejects hatred-filled worship (Matthew 5:23–24)

ILLUSTRATIONS

1. The Poisoned Cup

A man drank poison daily hoping his enemy would die.

Instead, he weakened, suffered, and died, while the enemy lived on.

Lesson:

Hatred never kills its target first, it kills the carrier.

2. Cain at the Door

God warned Cain:

Sin is crouching at your door (Genesis 4:7).

Cain ignored the warning, nurtured hatred, and became the first murderer.

Lesson:

Hatred ignored becomes destruction unleashed.

CALL TO REPENTANCE

Are you carrying unresolved anger, resentment, bitterness, or silent contempt?

You may smile outwardly yet harbor hatred inwardly.

God is calling you now:

Let it go, or it will destroy you.

DEEP REPENTANCE

This is not about excusing pain.

It is about surrendering the right to hate.

Say in your heart:

Lord, I release my claim to vengeance

Heal me where I was wounded.

PRAYER OF REPENTANCE

Holy Father,

I confess that I have allowed hatred, resentment, and bitterness to live in my heart.

I repent deeply for every thought, word, and emotion that contradicts Your love.

Wash me clean by the blood of Jesus

Remove the roots of anger and replace them with the heart of Christ

I choose forgiveness.

I choose life.

I choose love.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

HYMN

Just As I Am
Charlotte Elliott (1835)

1. Just as I am, without one plea,
but that Thy blood was shed for me,
and that Thou bidd'st me come to Thee,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

2. Just as I am, and waiting not
to rid my soul of one dark blot,
to Thee, whose blood can cleanse each spot,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

3. Just as I am, though tossed about
with many a conflict, many a doubt,
fightings and fears within, without,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

4. Just as I am, Thou wilt receive,
wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve;
because Thy promise I believe,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE

Identify one person you resent.

Pray for them sincerely today.

Release them verbally before God.

DEEP REFLECTION

What you refuse to forgive today may imprison your tomorrow.

Hatred keeps you emotionally tied to pain; forgiveness sets you free.

WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

God never commands what He will not empower.

The same grace that saved you can heal you.

ETERNITY IN VIEW

Heaven is a place of perfect love.

Hatred has no future there.

Choose now what you want to live with forever.
