THE WORDS OF TRUTH DAILY DEVOTIONAL
Dec 20th, 2025
𝕋𝕀𝕋𝕃𝔼:
THOSE WHO DO NOT LOVE ARE STILL UNDER THE POWER OF DEATH!
KEY VERSE
“Anyone who does not love remains in death.”
— 1 John 3:14 (NIV)
DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE
The Apostle John draws a sharp spiritual line:
Love is not optional, it is evidence of life.
According to Scripture, love is the clearest proof that we have passed from spiritual death to spiritual life.
Where love is absent, death still reigns, not physical death, but spiritual separation from God, who is love (1 John 4:8).
To live without love is to live disconnected from the nature of God.
Hatred, bitterness, unforgiveness, envy, and indifference are not harmless emotions; they are symptoms of spiritual death.
Love is not merely affection, it is sacrificial, obedient, active, and Christlike.
Jesus did not say the world would know us by our gifts, doctrine, or activities, but by our love (John 13:35).
Love is the heartbeat of salvation and the oxygen of eternal life.
BIBLICAL OBJECTIVES OF GOD CONCERNING LOVE
- To reveal His nature through us (1 John 4:8)
- To prove our salvation (1 John 3:14)
- To unite believers as one body (Colossians 3:14)
- To reflect Christ to the world (John 13:34–35)
- To overcome evil (Romans 12:21)
- To fulfill the law (Romans 13:10)
- To replace hatred with life (1 John 2:9–11)
- To mature us spiritually (1 Corinthians 13:11)
- To prepare us for eternity (1 Corinthians 13:8)
- To make us effective witnesses (Matthew 5:16)
CHARACTERISTICS OF TRUE LOVE
- Sacrificial – Love lays down its life (John 15:13)
- Active – Love is demonstrated, not declared (1 John 3:18)
- Patient – Love endures weakness (1 Corinthians 13:4)
- Forgiving – Love releases offenses (Ephesians 4:32)
- Selfless – Love seeks others’ good (Philippians 2:3–4)
- Pure – Love is not hypocritical (Romans 12:9)
- Obedient – Love follows God’s commands (John 14:15)
- Compassionate – Love feels and responds (Colossians 3:12)
- Transforming – Love changes hearts (2 Corinthians 5:14)
- Eternal – Love never fails (1 Corinthians 13:8)
ILLUSTRATIONS
1. The Unplugged Lamp
A lamp may look beautiful, but if it is not connected to power, it produces no light.
Lesson:
Love is evidence that we are connected to God.
Where love is absent, spiritual power is absent, no matter how religious the appearance.
2. The Cold Body
A body that no longer responds to touch or pain is clinically dead.
Lesson:
When a heart no longer feels compassion, sorrow for sin, or concern for others, it is a sign of spiritual death.
CALL TO REPENTANCE
Search your heart:
- Is there bitterness you have justified?
- Is there hatred you have hidden?
- Is there love you have withheld?
God is calling you back to life through love.
Repent, before hardness becomes permanent.
DEEP REPENTANCE (HEART CRY)
Lord, I confess that I have allowed resentment, pride, and indifference to live in my heart.
I have withheld love where You commanded it.
I reject spiritual death and return to Your life.
Revive my heart again.
PRAYER OF REPENTANCE
I acknowledge that I have not always walked in love.
Forgive me for every seed of bitterness, hatred, unforgiveness, and selfishness in my heart.
Cleanse me by the blood of Jesus.
I choose life, not death.
I choose love, not hatred.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

HYMN
Love Divine, All Loves Excelling
Charles Wesley, 1747
1. Love divine, all loves excelling,
Joy of Heav'n to Earth come down,
Fix in us thy humble dwelling,
All thy faithful mercies crown;
Jesus, thou art all compassion,
Pure, unbounded love thou art;
Visit us with thy salvation,
Enter ev'ry trembling heart.
2. Breathe, O breathe thy loving Spirit
Into ev'ry troubled breast;
Let us all in thee inherit,
Let us find thy promised rest;
Take away our love of sinning;
Alpha and Omega be;
End of faith as its beginning,
Set our hearts at liberty.
3. Come, Almighty to deliver;
Let us all thy grace receive;
Suddenly return, and never,
Never more thy temples leave.
Thee we would be always blessing,
Serve thee as thy host above,
Pray, and praise thee without ceasing,
Glory in thy perfect love.
4. Finish, then, thy new creation;
Pure and spotless let us be;
Let us see thy great salvation
Perfectly restored in thee;
Changed from glory into glory
Till in Heav'n we take our place,
Till we cast our crowns before thee,
Lost in wonder, love, and praise!
TODAY’S CHALLENGE
Deliberately show love today:
- Forgive someone
- Call someone you avoided
- Help someone quietly
- Pray for someone difficult
Love must be practiced to stay alive.
DEEP REFLECTION
If love is absent, spiritual death is present.
Ask yourself honestly:
Is my Christianity marked more by correctness or by Christlike love?
WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT
No matter how cold your heart feels today, God can revive it.
Love can be restored.
Life can return.
The Holy Spirit specializes in resurrection.
ETERNITY IN VIEW
Hatred belongs to darkness.
Love belongs to eternity.
Only those who learn to love now are prepared to live there forever.
CLOSING DECLARATION
I have passed from death to life because I walk in love.
My heart is alive with God’s love.
I reject bitterness, hatred, and unforgiveness.
I choose love.
I choose life.
I belong to God.
