WALK JUST AS HE WALKED!

THE WORDS OF TRUTH DAILY DEVOTIONAL
September 18th, 2025

𝕋𝕀𝕋𝕃𝔼:
WALK JUST AS HE WALKED!

KEY VERSE

“He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.”1 John 2:6 (NKJV)

DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE

To “walk just as He walked” means to model our entire life after Jesus:

His love, humility, purity, obedience, prayer, and compassion.

It is not only an outward imitation but an inward transformation empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Jesus’ footsteps lead through places of sacrifice, service, and holiness.

To walk like Him is to love enemies, forgive freely, speak truth, and submit to the Father’s will, even when it costs everything.

The narrow road of Christlike living may be hard, but it ends in eternal glory.

CHARACTERISTICS OF WALKING AS JESUS WALKED

  1. Love Without Limits – “Love one another as I have loved you.” (John 13:34)
  2. Humility and Servanthood – “He humbled Himself…taking the form of a servant.” (Philippians 2:5-7)
  3. Obedience to the Father – “Not My will, but Yours be done.” (Luke 22:42)
  4. Holiness – “Be holy, for I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:16)
  5. Prayerful Life – “He went out to a solitary place, and there He prayed.” (Mark 1:35)
  6. Compassion for the Needy – “He had compassion on them.” (Matthew 14:14)
  7. Endurance in Trials – “Who for the joy set before Him endured the cross.” (Hebrews 12:2)

ILLUSTRATIONS

1. The Apprentice and the Master

A young apprentice watched his master carpenter craft furniture with precision and grace.

At first, the apprentice struggled, but as he carefully copied every stroke and movement, he began to produce work that reflected the master’s skill.

Lesson: We grow in Christlikeness by fixing our eyes on Him and imitating His steps daily.

2. Footprints in the Sand

On a beach, a father walked ahead of his child, leaving clear footprints.

The child tried to place his feet exactly where his father had stepped.

Some prints were far apart, and it took effort, but he reached his father safely.

Lesson: Walking in Jesus’ steps may require stretching our faith and letting go of comfort, but His footprints guide us safely home.

CALL TO REPENTANCE

Have you been living on your own terms, drifting from Jesus’ example?

Today, He invites you to return and walk as He walked in:

purity, love, humility, and obedience.

DEEP REPENTANCE

Take a quiet moment to search your heart.

Are there habits, pride, grudges, or hidden sins blocking your walk with Christ?

Lay them all at His feet.

Decide to live a life patterned after His.

PRAYER OF REPENTANCE

Lord Jesus,

I confess that I have often failed to reflect You in my words, thoughts, and actions.

Forgive me for every compromise and selfishness.

Wash me clean by Your blood.

Empower me through Your Spirit to follow Your example in love, humility, holiness, and obedience.

From today, I choose to walk just as You walked.

In Your precious Name, Jesus Christ, Amen!

Hymn

O to Be Like Thee!
~ Thomas O. Chisholm (1897)

1. O to be like Thee! Blessed Redeemer,
This is my constant longing and prayer;
Gladly I’ll forfeit all of earth’s treasures,
Jesus, Thy perfect likeness to wear.

Chorus:

O to be like Thee! O to be like Thee!
Blessed Redeemer, pure as Thou art;
Come in Thy sweetness, come in Thy fullness,
Stamp Thine own image deep on my heart.

2. O to be like Thee! Full of compassion,
Loving, forgiving, tender and kind;
Helping the helpless, cheering the fainting,
Seeking the wand’ring sinner to find.

3. O to be like Thee! Lowly in spirit,
Holy and harmless, patient and brave;
Meekly enduring cruel reproaches,
Willing to suffer others to save.

4. O to be like Thee! Lord, I am coming
Now to receive th’anointing divine;
All that I am and have I am bringing,
Lord, from this moment all shall be Thine.

5. O to be like Thee! While I am pleading,
Pour out Thy Spirit, fill with Thy love;
Make me a temple meet for Thy dwelling,
Fit me for life and heaven above.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE

Pick one characteristic of Christ (love, humility, obedience, prayer, holiness, compassion, endurance) and practice it intentionally today.

Write how it changed your interactions.

DEEP REFLECTION

Walking as Jesus walked is not about perfection in our strength but about abiding in Him and allowing His life to flow through us.

The closer we walk with Him, the more His nature becomes ours.

His love will shape my actions,
His humility my heart,
His holiness my conduct, and
His Spirit my strength.

I will reflect Christ in all I do, in the name of Jesus.

Amen.
