THE GREATER WITNESS: TRUSTING GOD ABOVE HUMAN TESTIMONY
KEY VERSE
“If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.” - 1 John 5:9 (KJV)
“If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.” - 1 John 5:9 (KJV)
DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE
Every day, we are surrounded by voices, opinions from friends, media, culture, and even our own emotions. These voices form what the Bible calls “the witness of men.” While human testimony can be helpful, it is often limited, biased, or incomplete.
The Apostle John boldly declares that God’s witness is greater. This means that no matter how convincing human reasoning may seem, it cannot override the truth that God has already spoken, especially concerning His Son, Jesus Christ.
God’s witness is revealed through:
- His Word (Scripture)
- His Spirit within believers
- The life, death, and resurrection of Jesus
To reject God’s witness is not just doubt, it is to question God’s integrity. Faith, therefore, is choosing to believe God even when human evidence seems louder.
This devotional calls you to a higher standard: live by divine truth, not popular opinion. When God speaks, that settles it.

2. The Lighthouse in the Storm
Ships in a storm depend on the lighthouse, not the shifting waves.

HYMN
Trust and Obey
John H. Sammis (lyrics) & Daniel B. Towner (music)
Message: There is no other way to be happy in Jesus than to trust and obey.
1. When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.
Refrain:
Trust and obey,
for there's no other way
to be happy in Jesus,
but to trust and obey.
2. Not a burden we bear,
not a sorrow we share,
but our toil he doth richly repay;
not a grief or a loss,
not a frown or a cross,
but is blest if we trust and obey.
3. But we never can prove
the delights of his love
until all on the altar we lay;
for the favor he shows,
for the joy he bestows,
are for them who will trust and obey.
4. Then in fellowship sweet
we will sit at his feet,
or we'll walk by his side in the way;
what he says we will do,
where he sends we will go;
never fear, only trust and obey.
