THIS IS HIS COMMANDMENT!

THE WORDS OF TRUTH DAILY DEVOTIONAL
Jan 13th, 2026

𝕋𝕀𝕋𝕃𝔼:
THIS IS HIS COMMANDMENT!

KEY VERSE

“And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment.”1 John 3:23 (NKJV)

DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE

Christianity is not a collection of opinions, cultural preferences, or emotional experiences.

It is a command-driven faith anchored on the authority of God.

When Scripture declares,

“This is His commandment,”

it removes every argument, excuse, and selective obedience.

God reduces the entire weight of His will into two inseparable commands:

  1. Faith in Jesus Christ

  2. Love for one another

To believe without loving is hypocrisy.

To love without believing is humanism.

True Christianity is obedient faith expressed through sacrificial love.

This commandment is not optional, seasonal, denominational, or negotiable.

It is the heartbeat of God, the proof of sonship, and the measure of genuine spirituality.

Obedience to this command aligns us with heaven, while disobedience places us in spiritual rebellion, even if we appear religious.

BIBLICAL OBJECTIVES OF “HIS COMMANDMENT”

  1. To establish Jesus Christ as the only foundation of salvation (John 14:6)

  2. To produce living faith, not dead religion (James 2:17)

  3. To unify believers under divine love (John 13:34–35)

  4. To expose false spirituality and hypocrisy (1 John 2:4)

  5. To align believers with God’s nature, which is love (1 John 4:8)

  6. To produce obedience as evidence of sonship (John 8:31)

  7. To reflect Christ to the world (Matthew 5:16)

  8. To prepare believers for eternal judgment (2 Corinthians 5:10)

  9. To preserve sound doctrine in the Church (Jude 1:3)

  10. To secure eternal life through Christ (John 17:3)

CHARACTERISTICS OF THOSE WHO OBEY HIS COMMANDMENT

  1. They walk in love, not hatred (1 John 2:9–10)

  2. They obey God willingly, not forcefully (Psalm 40:8)

  3. They remain in Christ (John 15:10)

  4. They manifest spiritual fruit (Galatians 5:22–23)

  5. They forgive easily (Ephesians 4:32)

  6. They live by truth, not convenience (John 17:17)

  7. They are led by the Spirit (Romans 8:14)

  8. They pursue holiness (Hebrews 12:14)

  9. They love the brethren sincerely (1 Peter 1:22)

  10. They are assured of eternal life (1 John 5:13)

ILLUSTRATIONS

1. THE SIGNED BUT UNDELIVERED LETTER

A man signs an official letter approving help for a needy family but never sends it.

The approval is real, but the family remains hungry.

Lesson:

Faith without loving action is a signed but undelivered letter.

God’s commandment must be believed and lived.

“Let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.”1 John 3:18

2. THE UNPLUGGED APPLIANCE

An appliance may be new and expensive, but without power, it is useless.

Lesson:

Belief in Christ is the power source; love is the operation.

Disconnect either, and Christianity becomes powerless.

“He who abides in love abides in God.”1 John 4:16

CALL TO REPENTANCE

Beloved, have we replaced obedience with excuses?

Have we confessed Christ with our mouths while harboring hatred, bitterness, pride, and unforgiveness in our hearts?

This commandment demands total surrender, not partial compliance.

DEEP REPENTANCE (HEART CRY)

Lord, I acknowledge that I have often chosen comfort over obedience, opinion over truth, and self over love.

I have believed selectively and loved conditionally.

Today, I bow to Your commandment.

PRAYER OF REPENTANCE

Father, in the name of Jesus,

I repent of every form of disobedience, lovelessness, hypocrisy, and unbelief

Wash my heart by the blood of Jesus.

Restore in me a pure heart and renew a right spirit within me.

I return fully to Your commandment.

Amen.

HYMN

Trust and Obey
John H. Sammis (1887)

1. When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.

Refrain:

Trust and obey,
for there's no other way
to be happy in Jesus,
but to trust and obey.

2. Not a burden we bear,
not a sorrow we share,
but our toil he doth richly repay;
not a grief or a loss,
not a frown or a cross,
but is blest if we trust and obey.

3. But we never can prove
the delights of his love
until all on the altar we lay;
for the favor he shows,
for the joy he bestows,
are for them who will trust and obey.

4. Then in fellowship sweet
we will sit at his feet,
or we'll walk by his side in the way;
what he says we will do,
where he sends we will go;
never fear, only trust and obey.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE

Before the day ends, intentionally show Christlike love to someone difficult, without announcing it, and forgive where you have delayed forgiveness.

DEEP REFLECTION

If God examined your love today, would it confirm your faith?

If your obedience were weighed, would it reveal submission or rebellion?

WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

Grace empowers obedience.

You are not alone, God works in you both to will and to do His good pleasure (Philippians 2:13).

ETERNITY IN VIEW

Obedience is temporary; eternity is permanent.

What you obey today determines where you dwell forever.

CLOSING DECLARATION

I choose obedience over convenience.

I believe in Christ and walk in love.

I live by His commandment.

PROPHETIC DECLARATION

By the authority of God’s Word, I declare:

You will walk in obedient faith, overflow in divine love, and finish strong in Christ.

Your life shall testify of true sonship.

So shall it be, in the name of Jesus, Amen!
