Jan 16th, 2026
𝕋𝕀𝕋𝕃𝔼:
AS HE GAVE US COMMANDMENT!
KEY VERSE
“And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment.” — 1 John 3:23 (NKJV)
DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE
The Christian faith is not sustained by emotions, charisma, or personal opinions, but by obedience to divine commandment.
Scripture makes it clear that God does not merely offer suggestions; He gives commandments.
To love Him is to obey Him (John 14:15).
When the Bible says
“As He gave us commandment”,
it emphasizes:
Divine authority – God is the Commander.
Moral responsibility – obedience is not optional.
Covenant relationship – commandments preserve fellowship.
Spiritual evidence – obedience proves genuine faith.
God’s commandments are not burdensome (1 John 5:3); they are expressions of His love, wisdom, and desire for our eternal good.
Disobedience fractures intimacy, but obedience aligns us with heaven’s order.
BIBLICAL OBJECTIVES OF GOD’S COMMANDMENTS
To reveal God’s will clearly (Deut. 29:29)
To guide believers into righteous living (Psalm 119:105)
To preserve fellowship with God (John 15:10)
To expose sin and need for grace (Romans 3:20)
To shape Christlike character (Romans 8:29)
To separate believers from the world (Leviticus 20:26)
To establish spiritual authority (Luke 6:46)
To guarantee divine blessings (Deut. 28:1–2)
To prepare us for eternal life (Matthew 19:17)
To glorify God through obedience (John 17:4)

HYMN
Trust and Obey
John H. Sammis (1887)
Theme: Fellowship with God is sustained only through obedience.
1. When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.
Refrain:
Trust and obey,
for there's no other way
to be happy in Jesus,
but to trust and obey.
2. Not a burden we bear,
not a sorrow we share,
but our toil he doth richly repay;
not a grief or a loss,
not a frown or a cross,
but is blest if we trust and obey.
3. But we never can prove
the delights of his love
until all on the altar we lay;
for the favor he shows,
for the joy he bestows,
are for them who will trust and obey.
4. Then in fellowship sweet
we will sit at his feet,
or we'll walk by his side in the way;
what he says we will do,
where he sends we will go;
never fear, only trust and obey.
TODAY’S CHALLENGE
Identify one command of God you have delayed obeying.
Act on it today, not tomorrow.
