DEAR CHILDREN, DO NOT LET ANYONE LEAD YOU ASTRAY

THE WORDS OF TRUTH DAILY DEVOTIONAL

𝕋𝕀𝕋𝕃𝔼:
DEAR CHILDREN, DO NOT LET ANYONE LEAD YOU ASTRAY

(1 John 3:7)

KEY VERSE

“Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as He is righteous.”1 John 3:7

DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE

In this powerful warning, the Apostle John, known as the apostle of love, reminds believers that love does not exclude truth.

Real spiritual care demands discernment, awareness, and firm grounding in righteousness.

Do not let anyone lead you astray, reveals three realities:

  1. Deception is real.
The enemy seeks to confuse, distort, and mislead believers (2 Corinthians 11:3).

  2. Deception rarely looks dangerous.
It often appears attractive, harmless, convenient, or “modern.”

  3. Believers have responsibility.
We must guard our hearts, test the spirits, and abide in the truth of God's Word.

Satan’s oldest strategy is deception.

In Eden, he twisted God’s Word.
In the wilderness, he misquoted scripture to Jesus.
In the church, he sends false doctrines and misleading influences.

But John reminds us:

When your heart is filled with God’s Word, your spirit becomes trained to sense what is false, counterfeit, or misleading.

Those who remain in Christ cannot be easily led astray.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THOSE WHO ARE NOT LED ASTRAY

  1. They Abide in God’s WordJohn 8:31–32
  2. They Are Led by the Holy SpiritRomans 8:14
  3. They Walk in Righteousness – 1 John 3:7
  4. They Test Every Spirit1 John 4:1
  5. They Walk in the Light1 John 1:7
  6. They Discern Good from EvilHebrews 5:14
  7. They Imitate Christ’s Character1 Peter 2:21
  8. They Guard Their HeartsProverbs 4:23
  9. They Keep Sound DoctrineTitus 2:1
  10. They Persevere in HolinessHebrews 12:14

ILLUSTRATIONS

1. The Two Shepherds

A traveler saw two shepherds leading sheep on a mountain trail.

One shepherd led with care, calling the sheep by name.

The other drove the sheep harshly with sticks.

Surprisingly, some sheep began following the harsh shepherd who was not theirs.

Why?

They were unfamiliar with their true shepherd’s voice.

Lesson:

When you stop listening to the Shepherd (Jesus), you risk following a voice that leads to danger.

2. The Fake Currency

A banker never studies counterfeit money; he studies the real currency until every detail is familiar.

When a fake appears, he instantly senses something “off.”

Lesson:

The more deeply you know God’s Word, the faster you detect spiritual counterfeits.

CALL TO REPENTANCE

Beloved child of God, have you been drifting?

Have you allowed wrong influences to shape your decisions, desires, or spiritual focus?

Have you listened to voices that contradict Scripture?

Return today.

Let the Father cleanse your heart from every misleading influence.

DEEP REPENTANCE

Speak from your heart:

Lord, open my eyes to every area where I have been deceived.

Show me the places where I have compromised Your truth.

I surrender my mind, my choices, and my convictions to You.

Deliver me from every misleading voice.

PRAYER OF REPENTANCE

Heavenly Father,

I humble myself before You.

Forgive me for every time I allowed wrong influence, sin, or confusion to lead my heart away from Your truth.

Cleanse me from deception, pride, and compromise.

Restore my discernment and strengthen my spirit to follow Your voice alone.

From today, open my eyes to truth and close my ears to lies.

In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

HYMN

Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus
Helen Howarth Lemmel (1922)

1. O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free!

Chorus:

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.

2. Thro' death into life everlasting,
He passed, and we follow Him there;
O’er us sin no more hath dominion--
For more than conqu’rors we are!

3. His Word shall not fail you--He promised;
Believe Him, and all will be well:
Then go to a world that is dying,
His perfect salvation to tell!

TODAY’S CHALLENGE

Identify one influence, media, friendship, habit, idea, counsel, that draws you away from God’s truth.

Remove it, replace it with Scripture, and pray for discernment.

DEEP REFLECTION

You become what you follow.

You mirror what you meditate on.

You pursue what you love.

What voice is shaping your destiny, God’s voice or another?

The danger of deception is that the deceived don’t know they are deceived.

Stay anchored in Christ.

WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

Take heart.

God is your Shepherd, your Teacher, your Keeper.

He will guide you into all truth.

He will protect you from error.

He will preserve your soul.

Every truth of God pulls you toward glory.
