YOU HAVE AN ANOINTING FROM THE HOLY ONE!

KEY VERSE

“But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.” — 1 John 2:20 (NKJV)

DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE

The “anointing” is not a mere feeling or title; it is the divine empowerment of the Holy Spirit that sets believers apart for God’s purpose.

In the Old Testament, kings, priests, and prophets were anointed with oil as a symbol of consecration.

In the New Covenant, the Holy Spirit Himself is the true anointing poured out upon every believer in Christ (Acts 10:38, 2 Corinthians 1:21–22).

To be anointed means to be divinely chosen, equipped, and empowered for service.

The anointing enables believers to live victoriously, walk in discernment, minister in power, and overcome the works of darkness.

The Apostle John assures us that the anointing we have from the Holy One abides in us (1 John 2:27).

It teaches, strengthens, and reveals truth, guiding us in alignment with God’s will.

This anointing is not reserved for pastors or prophets alone, it is for every believer who has received the Holy Spirit through faith in Christ.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THOSE WHO CARRY THE ANOINTING

1. They Are Separated for God’s Purpose – (1 Samuel 16:13) – David was anointed and set apart for divine assignment.
2. They Walk in Spiritual Power – (Acts 10:38) – Jesus was anointed with the Holy Ghost and power.
3. They Operate in Spiritual Discernment – (1 John 2:27) – The anointing teaches and reveals truth.
4. They Demonstrate Boldness and Authority – (Luke 4:18-19) – The anointed proclaim liberty and healing.
5. They Manifest the Fruits of the Spirit – (Galatians 5:22-23) – True anointing produces godly character.
6. They Overcome the Enemy – (Isaiah 10:27) – The yoke is destroyed because of the anointing.
7. They Carry God’s Presence – (2 Corinthians 3:17) – Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

ILLUSTRATIONS

1. The Lamp and the Oil

A lamp without oil may look beautiful, but it cannot shine.

In the same way, a Christian without the anointing of the Holy Spirit may have religion but lacks power.

When oil fills the lamp, light shines brightly through the darkness.

Lesson: The Holy Spirit is the oil that keeps your spiritual fire burning.

Without Him, your light will fade, but with Him, you illuminate the world.

2. The Broken Alabaster Box

Mary broke her alabaster box of precious ointment at Jesus’ feet (Mark 14:3–9).

The fragrance filled the house.

She gave her all in total surrender, and her act became a symbol of true worship and devotion.

Lesson: The anointing flows through brokenness and surrender.

When you yield everything to God, His Spirit flows freely and powerfully through your life.

CALL TO REPENTANCE

Have you been living unaware or neglectful of the divine anointing upon your life?

Have pride, sin, or fear limited the move of God’s Spirit in you?

Today, return to the Holy One who anointed you.

Ask Him to renew, refill, and reignite His power in your life.

DEEP REPENTANCE

Cry out to God sincerely:

Lord, I have allowed the cares of this world to quench Your Spirit. 

I have hidden my light and ignored Your calling. 

Have mercy upon me! 

Restore Your anointing within me and cleanse me from all that hinders Your flow.

PRAYER OF REPENTANCE

Heavenly Father,

I come before You in humility, acknowledging my weakness and spiritual neglect. 

Forgive me for every sin, pride, and compromise that has grieved Your Spirit. 

Lord Jesus, I surrender afresh to You. 

Holy Spirit, renew Your anointing within me, let it flow like fresh oil. 

Let Your presence fill my life, empower my words, and ignite my purpose. 

From today, I choose to walk in the power and purity of the anointing.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE

Spend intentional time in prayer and worship today, asking the Holy Spirit to fill you afresh.

Identify one area of your life or service where the anointing has been dormant, and ask God to rekindle His fire there.

DEEP REFLECTION

The anointing is not for self-promotion but for divine purpose.

It is not a feeling, it is a calling.

Ask yourself:

Am I using the anointing to glorify God or to magnify self? 

Am I protecting and nurturing the presence of the Holy Spirit within me?

CLOSING DECLARATION

The anointing of the Holy One abides in me!

I am empowered to do God’s will, filled with His Spirit, and guided by His truth.

The yoke is broken, my mind is renewed, and my life shines with divine purpose.

I am anointed to heal, to bless, to build, and to conquer.

I will not quench the Spirit, for I am chosen, consecrated, and covered by the power of the Holy Ghost!

PRAYER POINTS

1. Father, thank You for the anointing of Your Spirit upon my life, in the name of Jesus.
2. Lord, forgive me for neglecting or misusing the anointing, in the name of Jesus.
3. Holy Spirit, fill me afresh with Your power and presence, in the name of Jesus.
4. Father, let Your anointing destroy every yoke of bondage in my life, in the name of Jesus.
5. Lord, anoint my hands for exploits and my lips to speak Your truth, in the name of Jesus.
6. Holy Spirit, teach me to walk in discernment and truth, in the name of Jesus.
7. Father, let the anointing in me never run dry, in the name of Jesus.
8. Lord, by Your anointing, empower me to fulfill my divine assignment, in the name of Jesus.
9. Father, let Your anointing heal, deliver, and transform lives through me, in the name of Jesus.
10. Lord, renew my strength daily through the power of Your anointing, in the name of Jesus.

PROPHETIC DECLARATION

I declare today that I carry the anointing of the Holy One!

Every yoke is broken, every chain destroyed, and every dark power defeated.

Fresh oil flows upon my life, power to overcome, to manifest divine wisdom, to heal, to restore, and to shine.

I am divinely chosen, equipped, and unstoppable.

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, and I will fulfill my purpose, victoriously, in the mighty name of Jesus!
