THE WORDS OF TRUTH DAILY DEVOTIONAL
Oct 6th, 2025
𝕋𝕀𝕋𝕃𝔼:
THEY WENT OUT FROM US, BUT THEY WERE NOT OF US!
KEY VERSE
“They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.” — 1 John 2:19 (KJV)
DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE
In this scripture, the Apostle John addresses the painful reality of spiritual separation, those who once appeared to be part of the faith community but later departed, revealing that their hearts were never truly surrendered to Christ.
This is not merely about physical departure from a church building; it represents a deeper spiritual departure from truth, obedience, and fellowship with Christ.
When people walk away from the faith, reject sound doctrine, or compromise with the world, it exposes the true state of their hearts.
John reminds us that true believers remain in the Word, in fellowship, and in obedience because their roots are grounded in Christ (John 15:4-6).
Not everyone who starts with you is destined to finish with you.
The Christian journey is not about association, but transformation.
God allows separation to reveal genuineness, the wheat from the chaff, the faithful from the false, the called from the convenient.
CHARACTERISTICS OF THOSE WHO TRULY BELONG TO CHRIST
- They Abide in the Truth – (John 8:31-32) They continue in the Word and live by it.
- They Bear Fruit of Righteousness – (Matthew 7:16-20) Their lives produce godly fruit.
- They Persevere in Faith – (Hebrews 10:38-39) They don’t draw back to destruction.
- They Walk in Love – (1 John 3:14) They love the brethren and reflect God’s heart.
- They Obey God’s Commands – (John 14:15) Their love produces obedience.
- They Are Spirit-Led – (Romans 8:14) Their lives are governed by the Holy Spirit.
- They Endure Trials Faithfully – (James 1:12) True believers don’t quit under pressure.
ILLUSTRATIONS
1. The Imitation Coin
A banker once examined two coins that looked identical.
To the untrained eye, both seemed genuine, but when tested in fire, one melted, it was fake.
Lesson: The fire of trials and truth reveals what is genuine.
Those who are truly “of Christ” remain steadfast even when tested by persecution, correction, or hardship.
2. The Withered Branch
A gardener pruned his vines and noticed a branch that had detached itself from the stem.
Though it looked green for a few days, it soon dried up.
Lesson: Anyone detached from Christ may appear alive for a while, but without true connection to the Vine, spiritual death is inevitable (John 15:6).
CALL TO REPENTANCE
Beloved, have you been merely associated with the faith but not truly transformed?
Have you drawn near to God with your lips while your heart is far from Him?
Today, the Lord calls you to examine yourself whether you are truly in the faith (2 Corinthians 13:5).
Return before it’s too late.
DEEP REPENTANCE
Cry out to God with sincerity:
Lord, deliver me from every form of falsehood, hypocrisy, and lukewarmness.
Restore in me the fire of genuine faith.
Let me not be found among those who went out but were never truly Yours!
PRAYER OF REPENTANCE
Heavenly Father,
I come before You in humility and truth.
Forgive me for every pretense and false appearance of faith.
I repent of every form of double-mindedness and hypocrisy.
Lord Jesus, cleanse me with Your blood and make me truly Yours.
Help me to abide in You, walk in obedience, and remain steadfast until the end.
I choose to be rooted in truth and separated unto holiness.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

HYMN
Jesus, Keep Me Near the Cross
Fanny J. Crosby (1869)
1. Jesus, keep me near the cross,
There a precious fountain,
Free to all, a healing stream,
Flows from Calv’ry’s mountain.
Chorus:
In the cross, in the cross,
Be my glory ever;
Till my raptured soul shall find
Rest beyond the river.
2. Near the cross, a trembling soul.
Love and mercy found me;
There the Bright and Morning Star
Sheds its beams around me.
3. Near the cross! O Lamb of God,
Bring its scenes before me;
Help my walk from day to day
With its shadows o’er me.
4. Near the cross I’ll watch and wait,
Hoping trusting ever,
Till I reach the golden strand
Just beyond the river.
TODAY’S CHALLENGE
Evaluate your walk with God.
Are you truly abiding in Christ or just following religion and routine?
Take one concrete step today toward deeper fellowship, commit to daily prayer, Bible study, and sincere obedience.
DEEP REFLECTION
It is possible to walk with the crowd and still not walk with Christ.
The end-time deception is subtle, many will have form without power.
Ask yourself:
Am I following Jesus, or am I following convenience?
True belonging is proven not by words but by endurance, obedience, and love.
CLOSING DECLARATION
I am of Christ and I belong to Him fully.
I am not a pretender or a follower of convenience.
I am rooted in truth, steadfast in faith, and abiding in His love.
Though the world may turn away, I will stand firm in Christ forever.
Amen.
