THE WORDS OF TRUTH DAILY DEVOTIONAL

𝕋𝕀𝕋𝕃𝔼:
NOT BE ASHAMED BEFORE HIM AT HIS COMING!

KEY VERSE

“And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.”1 John 2:28 (KJV)

DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE

The return of Jesus Christ is not a myth, story, or ancient prophecy, it is an imminent reality.

Every believer will one day stand before the Lord, and the question is not if He is coming, but how prepared we are for His appearing.

To “not be ashamed before Him at His coming” means living daily in readiness, purity, and obedience.

Many will be caught unaware, living carelessly, distracted by the pleasures of this world, holding grudges, or serving God halfheartedly.

But those who abide in Christ, remaining steadfast in faith, holy in conduct, and watchful in spirit, will welcome Him with joy and confidence.

The unprepared will shrink back in shame, realizing too late that they traded eternal glory for temporary comfort.

True readiness for His coming is not about fear, it’s about fellowship.

When you abide in His Word, walk in holiness, and live by love, you eagerly await His appearing, not with shame, but with joy.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THOSE NOT ASHAMED AT HIS COMING

  1. Abiding in Christ – 1 John 2:28: Continually walking in fellowship with Him.
  2. Living in HolinessHebrews 12:14: Without holiness, no one will see the Lord.
  3. Walking in Love and ForgivenessJohn 13:35: Love proves true discipleship.
  4. Obedient to the WordJames 1:22: Doing the Word, not just hearing it.
  5. Watching and PrayingLuke 21:36: Staying spiritually awake and alert.
  6. Faithful in ServiceMatthew 24:46: Blessed is that servant whom the Lord finds faithful.
  7. Longing for His Appearing2 Timothy 4:8: Loving His return with expectation.

ILLUSTRATIONS

1. The Unannounced Visit

A company announced that a regional manager would visit all branches “sometime soon.”

Some employees worked diligently every day, keeping everything in order.

Others relaxed, saying, “We’ll prepare when we know the date.

When the manager suddenly arrived, only those who stayed ready were praised, the rest were ashamed.

Lesson: Jesus’ coming will be sudden.

Live daily as if today is the day He returns.

2. The Bride Without Oil

Ten virgins waited for the bridegroom (Matthew 25:1–13). Five had extra oil for their lamps, while five were careless.

When the cry came, “Behold, the bridegroom comes!” only the wise were ready to enter.

Lesson: The oil represents the Holy Spirit’s presence and a life of preparedness.

Those who neglect their spiritual lives will be left outside, ashamed and unready.

CALL TO REPENTANCE

Beloved, have you grown lukewarm, distracted, or careless in your walk with Christ?

Are you living for temporal gain instead of eternal glory?

The Lord calls you today:

Return to Me with all your heart.

Don’t let sin, pride, or unbelief rob you of the joy of His coming.

DEEP REPENTANCE

Cry out to God today.

Let your heart break before Him.

Say:

Lord, I have lived as though this world were my home.

I’ve been distracted by things that don’t matter.

I confess my sin, my inconsistency, my love of pleasure, and my disobedience.

Restore in me the fire of first love and help me to live ready for Your return.

PRAYER OF REPENTANCE

Heavenly Father,

I come before You with humility and sorrow.

Forgive me for every sin, distraction, and compromise that has taken my eyes off You.

Cleanse my heart, Lord, and renew a right spirit within me.

Teach me to abide in You daily, to live holy, and to walk in love and truth.

When You appear, may I stand unashamed and full of joy in Your presence.

I surrender completely to You, spirit, soul, and body.

In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

HYMN

When He Shall Come
Horatius Bonar (1808–1889)

When He shall come, resplendent in His glory,
To take His own from out this vale of night,
O may I know the joy at His appearing,
Only at morn to walk with Him in white!

Refrain:
When I shall stand within the court of heaven,
Where white-robed pilgrims pass before my sight,
Earth’s mists shall flee, and all its sin be riven,
Only at morn to walk with Him in white!

He shall be mine and I shall be His own,
For evermore, and none shall take my place;
I shall be His, and He shall be my own,
In glory of that home beyond the stars.

My soul shall sing and joyfully attend,
To meet Him in the air with saints so bright,
And then my journey here on earth shall end,
And I shall see His face in endless light.

When He shall come, resplendent in His glory,
And take His own from out this vale of night,
And all the redeemed shall join the song of praise,
O what a joy to be with Him in white.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE

Examine your life honestly today.

  • Is there any sin, bitterness, or disobedience that would make you ashamed if Jesus appeared right now?
  • Spend time confessing it before the Lord.
  • Then commit to living every day as though it were your last before meeting Christ.

DEEP REFLECTION

One day, every secret will be revealed, every hidden motive exposed, and every believer will stand face-to-face with the Lord.

The question is not if you will see Him, it is in what state you will meet Him:

ashamed or confident?

Eternity is forever.

Live today ready for His return.

CLOSING DECLARATION

I am abiding in Christ!

I am living in holiness, walking in love, and serving faithfully.

I will not be ashamed at His coming, for my life is hidden in Him.

I choose obedience over compromise, faith over fear, and eternity over the temporary.

I will meet my Lord with joy and confidence when He appears!

Amen.

I will behold His face in joy, and I will reign with Him forever!

In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen!
