THE WORDS OF TRUTH DAILY DEVOTIONAL
September 20th, 2025
𝕋𝕀𝕋𝕃𝔼:
THE DARKNESS IS PASSING AWAY!
KEY VERSE
“The darkness is passing away, and the true light is already shining.” – 1 John 2:8 (ESV)
DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE
Darkness in Scripture represents sin, ignorance, fear, and separation from God.
But Jesus, the Light of the World (John 8:12), has broken its power!
For everyone who receives Him, the shadows of guilt, bondage, and despair begin to fade as His light fills the heart.
Walking in the light means daily choosing:
Truth over lies,
Holiness over compromise, and
Faith over fear.
As we abide in Christ, darkness loses its hold, and His light grows brighter within us, guiding us to eternal life.
CHARACTERISTICS OF THOSE WALKING AS DARKNESS PASSES AWAY
-
Renewed Mind – Transformed by God’s truth (Romans 12:2).
-
Obedience to God’s Word – Loving Him through obedience (John 14:23).
-
Joyful Fellowship – Walking in light with others (1 John 1:7).
-
Freedom from Sin’s Grip – Sin no longer rules (Romans 6:14).
-
Hopeful Spirit – Anchored in Christ’s promises (Hebrews 6:19).
-
Discernment – Able to see through deception (Ephesians 5:8-10).
-
Peaceful Heart – God’s light calms every storm (Philippians 4:7).
ILLUSTRATIONS
1. The Tunnel and the Light
A weary traveler walked through a dark, endless tunnel.
Fear whispered,
“You’ll never see daylight again.”
But as he kept moving, a faint glow appeared ahead. The closer he drew, the brighter it became, until he stepped into warm sunshine.
Lesson: Keep pressing on in faith.
Even if the darkness seems heavy, Christ’s light is ahead.
2. The Broken Lantern Restored
A farmer once owned an old lantern whose glass was clouded with soot.
Its light flickered weakly.
He cleaned and polished it, replaced the wick, and refilled the oil.
Soon, it shone brilliantly, lighting his entire path.
Lesson: When we allow Jesus to cleanse and renew us, His light shines unhindered, driving away every shadow.
CALL TO REPENTANCE
Are there hidden sins, fears, or compromises keeping you in partial darkness?
Christ calls you to step fully into His light.
Leave the shadows behind, He is ready to forgive and heal.
DEEP REPENTANCE
Bow before the Lord.
Confess every secret sin, pride, bitterness, or doubt.
Renounce them aloud, and invite the Holy Spirit to fill every corner of your heart with the light of Christ.
PRAYER OF REPENTANCE
Lord Jesus,
I acknowledge that I have sometimes allowed darkness, sin, fear, or unbelief, to dim Your light in me.
Forgive me, cleanse me, and shine Your light in every area of my life.
I renounce every work of darkness and surrender wholly to You.
From today, I will walk in the light of Your truth.
In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen!

HYMN
The Light of the World Is Jesus
~ Philip P. Bliss (1875)
The Light of the world is Jesus!
Like sunshine at noonday His glory shone in,
The Light of the world is Jesus!
Come to the Light, ’tis shining for thee;
Sweetly the Light has dawned upon me.
Once I was blind, but now I can see:
The Light of the world is Jesus!
2. No darkness have we who in Jesus abide;
The Light of the world is Jesus.
We walk in the light when we follow our Guide;
The Light of the world is Jesus.
3. Ye dwellers in darkness with sin-blinded eyes:
The Light of the world is Jesus.
Go, wash at His bidding, and light will arise;
The Light of the world is Jesus.
4. No need of the sunlight in heaven, we’re told;
The Light of the world is Jesus.
The Lamb is the Light in the city of gold;
The Light of the world is Jesus.
TODAY’S CHALLENGE
Take one area of your life where you sense heaviness or compromise.
Write it down, pray over it, and speak God’s light into it.
Share Christ’s light with someone who seems stuck in darkness.
DEEP REFLECTION
The night of sin and despair is fading; the dawn of God’s kingdom is breaking forth.
Will you remain in the shadows, or will you walk boldly in the brightness of Christ?
CLOSING DECLARATION
I declare that darkness has no power over me.
