𝕋𝕀𝕋𝕃𝔼:
IF WE KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS!

KEY VERSE

“By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome.”1 John 5:2-3 (NKJV)

DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE

Loving God is inseparable from obeying Him.

Obedience is not legalism but a joyful response to grace.

When we keep His commandments, we prove our love, experience His protection, and bear lasting fruit.

Disobedience, on the other hand, dulls our spiritual hearing and robs us of fellowship with Him.

The commandments of Christ are not heavy chains; they are the guardrails of freedom.

They lead us to life, peace, and intimacy with the Father.

Jesus said,

If you love Me, keep My commandments” (John 14:15).

ILLUSTRATIONS

1. The Locked Garden

A gardener planted roses but left the gate open.

Goats entered and destroyed the plants.

Only when he built a fence and locked the gate did the flowers bloom unharmed.

Lesson: God’s commands are protective walls keeping your life safe and fruitful.

2. The Musician’s Score

A gifted violinist decided to play without reading the score; the melody turned into noise.

When she returned to the written notes, beauty flowed again.

Lesson: God’s Word is the score of our lives, following it makes our walk harmonious.

CALL TO REPENTANCE

Have you treated God’s commands as optional or burdensome?

Have compromise or neglect crept in?

Return today to loving obedience, the true proof of discipleship.

DEEP REPENTANCE

Take a moment in silence.

Ask the Holy Spirit to search your heart (Psalm 139:23-24).

Confess any area where you have ignored His voice.

Yield it completely to Him.

PRAYER OF REPENTANCE

Father of mercy,

I confess that I have sometimes chosen my way above Yours.

Forgive me for disobedience, for neglecting Your Word, and for delaying to act on Your promptings.

Today I turn back with my whole heart.

Write Your law upon my heart and give me strength to walk in Your truth every day.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Hymn

Trust and Obey
~ John H. Sammis (1887)

1. When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Chorus:

Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

2. Not a burden we bear,
not a sorrow we share,
but our toil he doth richly repay;
not a grief or a loss,
not a frown or a cross,
but is blest if we trust and obey.

3. But we never can prove
the delights of his love
until all on the altar we lay;
for the favor he shows,
for the joy he bestows,
are for them who will trust and obey.

4. Then in fellowship sweet
we will sit at his feet,
or we'll walk by his side in the way;
what he says we will do,
where he sends we will go;
never fear, only trust and obey.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE

Choose one specific command of Christ (e.g., forgive, serve, give, love enemies).

Act on it before the end of today.

Journal how obedience changes your peace and joy.

DEEP REFLECTION

Keeping His commandments is not about earning salvation; it’s a love response to the Savior who first loved us. Every act of obedience is a seed of intimacy with God and a testimony to the world.

CLOSING DECLARATION

Today I set my heart to trust and obey the Lord.

His Word is my delight; His Spirit is my helper.

I will walk in His statutes and honor Him in all I do.

By His grace I will keep His commandments and enjoy His life in me.

Amen.
