THE WORDS OF TRUTH DAILY DEVOTIONAL
September 16th, 2025
𝕋𝕀𝕋𝕃𝔼:
HE WHO SAYS, ‘I KNOW HIM’!
KEY VERSE
“He who says, ‘I know Him,’ and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.” — 1 John 2:4 (NKJV)
DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE
To say, “I know Jesus” is more than professing His name; it is living in obedience to His Word.
Many claim faith, yet their lifestyles contradict His commands.
True knowledge of Christ is revealed through intimacy, obedience, and transformation.
Knowing Him is not merely intellectual, it is relational.
It means walking in His light, surrendering to His lordship, and reflecting His character.
When we keep His commandments, we show that His truth has taken root in our hearts.
CHARACTERISTICS OF ONE WHO TRULY KNOWS HIM
-
Obedience to His Word – John 14:15 – “If you love Me, keep My commandments.”
-
Love for Others – 1 John 4:7 – Those who know God love one another.
-
Holiness in Conduct – 1 Peter 1:15-16 – Be holy as He is holy.
-
Bearing Fruit – John 15:5 – Abiding in Christ produces lasting fruit.
-
Humility – Philippians 2:5-7 – Following Christ’s servant heart.
-
Steadfast Faith – Hebrews 10:23 – Holding fast the confession of our hope.
-
Separation from Sin – 2 Corinthians 6:17 – Come out from among them and be separate.
ILLUSTRATIONS
1. The Empty Badge
A security officer wore a uniform and badge but never learned the procedures or obeyed the rules.
One day, during an emergency, he froze, his badge meant nothing without the discipline behind it.
Lesson: Saying “I know Christ” without obedience is like wearing an empty badge, it carries no authority or power.
2. The Apprentice and the Master
A young apprentice claimed to know his master carpenter because he often watched him work.
But when asked to build a table, he failed because he never practiced the master’s ways.
Lesson: We truly know Christ when we not only hear but also practice His teachings (Matthew 7:24).
CALL TO REPENTANCE
Have you professed Christ but neglected to walk in His ways?
He invites you to turn from lip service to a life of surrender.
DEEP REPENTANCE
Take a quiet moment and search your heart:
Are there areas where you resist His Word?
Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal hidden disobedience, pride, or compromise.
Confess them sincerely and invite His cleansing grace.
PRAYER OF REPENTANCE
Lord Jesus,
I confess that I have not always kept Your commandments, though I claimed to know You.
Forgive my hypocrisy and self-reliance.
Today, I lay my heart bare before You.
Wash me in Your blood, renew my spirit, and empower me to walk in truth and obedience.
I surrender every area of my life to Your lordship.
Help me to know You deeply and reflect Your character daily.
In Your precious name, Amen.

-
Matthew 7:21-23 – Not everyone who says “Lord, Lord” will enter the kingdom.

HYMN
1. O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made,
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed!
Chorus:
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee;
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee;
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
2. When through the woods and forest glades I wander
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees,
When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur
And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze,
3. And when I think that God, His Son not sparing,
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in
That on the cross, my burdens gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin!
4. When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow in humble adoration
And there proclaim, my God, how great Thou art!
TODAY’S CHALLENGE
Examine your life honestly.
Write down one area where your actions don’t match your confession of knowing Christ.
Commit to align that area with His Word starting today.
DEEP REFLECTION
True intimacy with Christ is revealed not by words but by daily surrender.
To know Him is to live as He lived, loving, forgiving, serving, and obeying.
CLOSING DECLARATION
I declare that I know Jesus, and my life will testify of Him.
I will walk in His truth, obey His Word, and reflect His love.
By His Spirit, I am strengthened to live as a true disciple every day.
Amen.
