ANCHOR SCRIPTURE:

"But I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Greet the friends by name." - 3 John 1:14 (KJV)

DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE

The closing words of the Apostle John in 3 John 1:14 may appear simple, but they reveal the beauty of genuine Christian fellowship. John expresses his desire to meet Gaius personally, pronounces peace upon him, conveys greetings from fellow believers, and encourages him to greet other believers individually. These words demonstrate that Christianity is not merely about individual faith but also about living in loving fellowship with God's family.

God never intended His children to live in spiritual isolation. From the early Church, believers prayed together, worshipped together, encouraged one another, shared their possessions, and strengthened one another during persecution (Acts 2:42–47). Christian fellowship is one of God's greatest gifts to His people because through it we receive encouragement, correction, accountability, comfort, and spiritual growth.

The phrase, "Our friends salute thee," reminds us that believers belong to one spiritual family united by the love of Christ. The friendship among Christians is not founded on social status, ethnicity, wealth, education, or nationality but upon our common salvation in Jesus Christ. Every believer is called to love fellow believers sincerely and without partiality.

John further instructed Gaius to "Greet the friends by name." This demonstrates that every believer matters before God. God knows each of His children personally, and we too should value people individually rather than treating them as mere numbers. Genuine Christian fellowship recognizes, appreciates, prays for, and encourages one another personally.

Sadly, many believers neglect fellowship today. Some withdraw because of offense, pride, disappointment, busyness, or worldly distractions. Others attend church physically but remain emotionally and spiritually disconnected. Such isolation weakens spiritual growth and makes believers vulnerable to temptation. The Bible reminds us not to neglect gathering together, especially as the day of Christ's return approaches (Hebrews 10:24–25).

Christian friendship also carries responsibility. We must encourage one another to remain faithful, restore those who fall, bear one another's burdens, rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep, forgive one another, and pray continually for each other. This reflects the character of Christ and strengthens the unity of the Church.

Above all, Jesus Himself is the greatest example of divine friendship. He called His disciples friends (John 15:15), loved them sacrificially, corrected them lovingly, prayed for them faithfully, and laid down His life for them. Every believer is called to reflect this Christlike love in relationships with fellow Christians.

Today, ask yourself whether you are contributing to unity or division, encouragement or discouragement, peace or conflict. Let your words, actions, and relationships reflect the love of Christ. Be intentional about building others up, maintaining peace, and strengthening the family of God.

ILLUSTRATIONS

1. The Burning Coals

Several burning coals glowed brightly in a fireplace. One coal was removed and placed by itself. Within minutes it lost its heat and became cold. When it was returned to the fire, it quickly became hot again.

A single rope strand snapped under heavy pressure, but when many strands were woven together, the rope became strong enough to bear a heavy load.

PERSONAL CALL TO REPENTANCE

Lord, I confess that I have sometimes neglected Christian fellowship, withheld love, harbored unforgiveness, ignored the needs of fellow believers, or allowed pride and selfishness to hinder healthy relationships. Today I turn back to You. Help me to love others sincerely and to become a source of peace, encouragement, and unity within Your family.

PERSONAL DEEP REPENTANCE

Merciful Father, I humble myself before You. Search my heart and expose every trace of bitterness, jealousy, resentment, pride, selfish ambition, and division. Forgive me for every careless word, broken relationship, neglected opportunity to encourage another believer, and every action that has dishonored the unity of Your Church. Fill me afresh with the love of Christ and teach me to value every member of Your family. Make me a faithful friend, a servant-hearted believer, and a true ambassador of Your peace. In Jesus' name, Amen.

PERSONAL PRAYER OF REPENTANCE

Lord Jesus, I repent of every sin that has damaged my relationship with You and with others. Cleanse me with Your precious blood and renew my heart. Give me grace to forgive, to love sincerely, to serve humbly, and to walk in unity with my brothers and sisters in Christ. Let my life reflect Your love daily. Thank You for Your mercy and forgiveness. Amen.

TODAY'S CHALLENGE

Intentionally encourage at least three believers today. Pray for them by name, contact them with words of encouragement, forgive anyone who has offended you, and strengthen unity wherever God places you.

DEEP REFLECTION

• Am I building people up or pulling them down?
• Do my relationships reflect Christ's love?
• Is there anyone I need to forgive or reconcile with?
• Do I genuinely value every believer as part of God's family?
• If Jesus examined my relationships today, would He be pleased?

PERSONAL WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

I will remember that God has not called me to walk alone. He surrounds me with brothers and sisters in Christ to encourage, strengthen, and pray for me. I will not allow disappointment or offense to isolate me from the family of God. The Lord is teaching me to love more deeply, forgive more freely, and serve more faithfully. As I invest in godly relationships, my faith will grow stronger and my life will reflect the love of Christ.

ETERNITY IN VIEW

The fellowship of believers on earth points to the eternal fellowship that awaits all who belong to Christ. One day, every redeemed believer from every nation, tribe, and language will gather before the throne of God in perfect unity and everlasting joy. Live today in a way that reflects the love and unity of heaven.
