DO NOT HINDER THE WORK OF GOD

THE WORDS OF TRUTH

𝕋𝕀𝕋𝕃𝔼:
DO NOT HINDER THE WORK OF GOD

ANCHOR SCRIPTURE:

"Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church." - 3 John 1:10 (KJV)

DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE

The Apostle John exposes the dangerous conduct of Diotrephes, a church leader who desired prominence instead of servanthood. He not only refused to receive faithful believers but also prevented others who wished to do good from doing so. This was not merely a personal weakness; it was opposition to God's work.

Many people today resemble Diotrephes. They discourage those who want to serve God, frustrate sincere workers in the church, block opportunities for faithful people, spread false accusations, and use positions of authority for selfish gain. Rather than encouraging ministry, they hinder it.

God never appoints leaders to suppress His work. Leadership in God's kingdom is stewardship, humility, service, and accountability. Every believer should become a bridge that connects people to Christ instead of becoming a barrier that drives them away.

The Lord delights in those who encourage others, strengthen weak hands, welcome strangers, support missionaries, disciple young believers, and create opportunities for people to fulfill God's calling. Every act that advances God's kingdom attracts Heaven's approval.

We must also examine ourselves. Sometimes we hinder God's work through jealousy, pride, criticism, unforgiveness, selfish ambition, fear, or indifference. We may discourage someone's calling through negative words or unnecessary opposition. Every believer should ask, "Am I helping God's work to grow or making it more difficult?"

Christ Himself welcomed sinners, restored the broken, empowered His disciples, and commissioned them to preach the Gospel. His followers must reflect the same heart.

Today, determine that you will never stand against God's purpose. Instead, become an encourager, a kingdom builder, and a faithful servant who opens doors for others to glorify God.

ILLUSTRATIONS

1. The Gatekeeper Who Closed the Gate

A gatekeeper was assigned to welcome visitors into a palace. Instead, he locked the gate and refused entry to deserving guests simply because he disliked them. Although the king had invited them, the gatekeeper acted contrary to the king's command.

Lessons

  • Never use your position against God's purpose.
  • God holds every steward accountable.
  • Authority should promote God's will, not personal interests.

2. Barnabas Encouraged Paul

When many believers feared Saul after his conversion, Barnabas welcomed him, introduced him to the apostles, and supported his ministry (Acts 9:26-28). Because of Barnabas' encouragement, Paul's ministry flourished.

Lessons

  • Encouragement can unlock another person's destiny.
  • God blesses those who help others fulfill their calling.
  • Kingdom advancement requires supportive believers.

PERSONAL CALL TO REPENTANCE

Lord, I confess every way I have discouraged others, opposed Your work, promoted myself above Your kingdom, or failed to support those You have called. Have mercy upon me.

HYMN

Take My Life, and Let It Be
Frances Ridley Havergal (1836–1879)

Reason: The hymn is a prayer of total surrender, asking God to use every part of one's life for His glory and service rather than for selfish ambition.

Take my life and let it be
consecrated, Lord, to thee.
Take my moments and my days;
let them flow in endless praise,
let them flow in endless praise.

TODAY'S CHALLENGE

Identify one person you can encourage, support, or help today in fulfilling God's purpose. Become a blessing rather than an obstacle.

DEEP REFLECTION

If Jesus examined my life today, would He say that I am advancing His kingdom or hindering it? Am I opening doors for others to serve Him, or am I closing them through my words, attitudes, or actions?

WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

God delights in humble servants. Even if your acts of kindness go unnoticed by people, Heaven records every encouragement you give, every burden you help carry, and every soul you help draw closer to Christ. Continue serving faithfully.

ETERNITY IN VIEW

Positions, titles, influence, and earthly recognition will all pass away. On the last day, Christ will reward those who faithfully built His kingdom with humility, love, and obedience. Live today with eternity as your focus.

PERSONAL CLOSING DECLARATION

Today, I choose to become a builder of God's kingdom. I reject pride, selfish ambition, and every attitude that hinders God's work. By God's grace, I will encourage believers, support His servants, promote unity, and faithfully advance the Gospel until Christ returns. In Jesus' name. Amen.

  10. May I remain faithful until the day I stand before Christ, in the name of Jesus.

PERSONAL PROPHETIC DECLARATION

I declare that I shall never oppose the work of God. The Lord shall make me a vessel of honor, a source of encouragement, and a faithful servant in His kingdom. Every spirit of pride, division, and discouragement is broken over my life. I shall fulfill my divine assignment with humility and joy. My life will produce lasting fruit for the glory of God, and many shall be strengthened through my testimony. In the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

WORDS OF TRUTH

The kingdom of God advances through humble servants, not self-promoting leaders. Every believer has a choice: to become a bridge that leads others to Christ or a barrier that keeps them away. Choose daily to encourage, support, and strengthen God's people. Those who help others fulfill God's purpose are themselves remembered and rewarded by God.
