THE REVELATION OF GOD’S LOVE
(Understanding That God Is Love)

KEY VERSE

“And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.” — 1 John 4:16 (KJV)

DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE

The statement God is love is one of the deepest revelations in Scripture. The Bible does not merely say that God shows love or acts in love; it declares that love is the very nature and essence of God.

To know God is to encounter love in its purest form. This love is not based on human merit, performance, or perfection. It is unconditional, sacrificial, and eternal.

God demonstrated His love when He created humanity in His image. Even when mankind fell into sin, God did not abandon His creation. Instead, His love designed a redemption plan through Jesus Christ.

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” — Romans 5:8

This love is not sentimental emotion; it is sacrificial commitment. The ultimate expression of God's love was the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross for the salvation of humanity.

God’s love accomplishes several things in the life of a believer:

When believers dwell in love, they reflect the character of God. Love becomes the evidence that God lives within them.

Therefore, the Christian life is not merely about religious activities but about living in the reality of God's love and expressing that love to the world.

BIBLICAL OBJECTIVES OF GOD'S LOVE

  1. To restore humanity to fellowship with God
    (2 Corinthians 5:18)

  2. To provide salvation through Jesus Christ
    (John 3:16)

ILLUSTRATIONS

1. THE PRODIGAL SON; LOVE THAT WELCOMES BACK

Scripture: Luke 15:11–24

A young man demanded his inheritance and wasted it in reckless living. When famine struck, he realized his mistake and decided to return home.

Instead of rejection, the father ran to meet him, embraced him, and restored him as a son.

Lesson

God’s love welcomes repentant sinners and restores them completely.

2. THE GOOD SAMARITAN; LOVE IN ACTION

Scripture: Luke 10:30–37

A wounded traveler was ignored by religious leaders. A Samaritan, considered an outsider, stopped to help him, bandaged his wounds, and paid for his care.

Lesson

God’s love is not passive. True love acts to help those in need regardless of background or status.

CALL TO REPENTANCE

Many people desire God's blessings but resist His love. Sin, pride, unforgiveness, and selfishness hinder the flow of God's love in the heart.

God invites every heart today to return to Him and experience His transforming love.

DEEP REPENTANCE

Repentance means turning away from anything that contradicts the nature of God’s love, hatred, bitterness, pride, and rebellion, and returning to God with a sincere heart.

PRAYER OF REPENTANCE

Heavenly Father,

I acknowledge that I have not always lived according to Your love. I repent of every sin, pride, bitterness, and selfishness in my life. Wash me with the blood of Jesus and purify my heart.

Fill me with Your love and transform my life so that I may reflect Your character. From today, help me to love You wholeheartedly and to love others sincerely.

Thank You for Your mercy and forgiveness.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.

HYMN

Love Divine, All Loves Excelling
Charles Wesley (1747)

Theme: The transforming power of God's divine love in the believer’s life.

Message of the Hymn:
The hymn celebrates God’s perfect love that redeems, transforms, and prepares believers for eternal glory.

1. Love divine, all loves excelling,
Joy of Heav'n to Earth come down,
Fix in us thy humble dwelling,
All thy faithful mercies crown;
Jesus, thou art all compassion,
Pure, unbounded love thou art;
Visit us with thy salvation,
Enter ev'ry trembling heart.

2. Breathe, O breathe thy loving Spirit
Into ev'ry troubled breast;
Let us all in thee inherit,
Let us find thy promised rest;
Take away our love of sinning;
Alpha and Omega be;
End of faith as its beginning,
Set our hearts at liberty.

3. Come, Almighty to deliver;
Let us all thy grace receive;
Suddenly return, and never,
Never more thy temples leave.
Thee we would be always blessing,
Serve thee as thy host above,
Pray, and praise thee without ceasing,
Glory in thy perfect love.

4. Finish, then, thy new creation;
Pure and spotless let us be;
Let us see thy great salvation
Perfectly restored in thee;
Changed from glory into glory
Till in Heav'n we take our place,
Till we cast our crowns before thee,
Lost in wonder, love, and praise!
