SHALL ASSURE OUR HEARTS BEFORE HIM

THE WORDS OF TRUTH DAILY DEVOTIONAL
Jan 4th, 2026

𝕋𝕀𝕋𝕃𝔼:
SHALL ASSURE OUR HEARTS BEFORE HIM

KEY VERSE

“And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.”1 John 3:19 (KJV)

DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE

The assurance of the heart before God is not a product of emotional comfort or religious activity alone; it is the settled confidence that flows from living in the truth.

Apostle John teaches that assurance comes when:

When our hearts condemn us, through guilt, fear, or inconsistency, God remains greater than our hearts, calling us back to truth and sincere love (1 John 3:20–21).

To “assure our hearts before Him” means to stand in God’s presence without hypocrisy, fear, or pretence, resting in the finished work of Christ, validated by a life of love and obedience.

Assurance is not self-generated; it is truth-generated.

Truth aligns the conscience, purifies the heart, and restores boldness before God.

BIBLICAL OBJECTIVES

  1. To establish believers in the truth of God’s Word (John 17:17).
  2. To cultivate confidence before God, not fear (Hebrews 10:22).
  3. To align the heart with godly love in action (1 John 3:18).
  4. To silence condemnation through Christ’s finished work (Romans 8:1).
  5. To develop a tender yet assured conscience (Acts 24:16).
  6. To strengthen prayer life with bold access to God (Hebrews 4:16).
  7. To encourage consistent obedience from the heart (Romans 6:17).
  8. To promote spiritual maturity rooted in truth and love (Ephesians 4:15).
  9. To foster inward peace regardless of outward circumstances (Isaiah 26:3).
  10. To prepare believers for eternal accountability before God (2 Corinthians 5:10).

ILLUSTRATIONS

1. The Settled Courtroom

Story:
A judge delivers a final verdict.

Though the defendant feels anxious, the signed judgment stands firm.

Feelings do not alter legal truth.

Lesson:

God’s Word, not our emotions, determines our standing.

When truth declares us forgiven in Christ, our hearts must submit to that verdict (Romans 5:1).

2. The Cleared Mirror

Story:
A mirror covered with dust gives a distorted reflection.

When cleaned, clarity returns.

Lesson:

Sin and hypocrisy distort the heart.

Repentance cleanses the heart, restoring clear assurance before God (Psalm 24:3–4).

CALL TO REPENTANCE

Beloved,

Assurance cannot coexist with willful disobedience.

Search me, O God, and know my heart.”Psalm 139:23

DEEP REPENTANCE

Lord, I confess every area where I have silenced truth, ignored Your voice, and lived outwardly while my heart drifted inwardly.

I repent of self-justification and return to sincere obedience.

PRAYER OF REPENTANCE

Father,

I come before You acknowledging my failures.

Cleanse my heart by the blood of Jesus

Restore truth within me

Remove condemnation, and align my heart with Your will.

I receive forgiveness and renewal,

In Jesus’ name.

Amen.

HYMN

Blessed Assurance
Fanny J. Crosby (1873)

Why: This hymn celebrates confident faith, salvation certainty, and joyful assurance in Christ.

1. Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
born of his Spirit, washed in his blood.

Refrain:

This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.
This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.

2. Perfect communion, perfect delight,
visions of rapture now burst on my sight.
Angels descending bring from above
echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

3. Perfect submission, all is at rest.
I in my Savior am happy and bless’d,
watching and waiting, looking above,
filled with his goodness, lost in his love.
