𝕋𝕀𝕋𝕃𝔼:
BY THIS WE KNOW THAT WE ARE OF THE TRUTH
KEY VERSE
“By this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him.” — 1 John 3:19 (NKJV)
DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE
Truth in Scripture is not merely correct doctrine or accurate speech; Truth is a Person, Jesus Christ (John 14:6).
To be “of the Truth” means our identity, conduct, love, and obedience flow from Christ’s life in us.
Apostle John makes it clear that assurance before God does not come from claims, titles, gifts, or outward religion, but from practical love expressed through obedience.
Being “of the Truth” is evidenced
- when our faith moves beyond words into sacrificial action,
- when conscience is aligned with God’s Word, and
- when our lives consistently reflect Christ, even when no one is watching.
Truth comforts the heart, silences condemnation, and produces holy confidence before God.
BIBLICAL OBJECTIVES OF THIS DEVOTIONAL
- To establish Truth as a lived reality, not mere confession (1 John 3:18).
- To help believers gain assurance of salvation through obedience (1 John 3:19–21).
- To align conscience with God’s Word, not emotions (Hebrews 9:14).
- To cultivate genuine love that reflects Christ (John 13:35).
- To expose false confidence rooted in religion without righteousness (Matthew 7:21–23).
- To stir repentance where life contradicts Truth (Psalm 51:6).
- To produce holy boldness before God (1 John 4:17).
- To encourage consistent Christian living (James 1:22).
- To deepen intimacy with Christ, the Truth (John 17:17).
- To prepare believers for eternity with a clear conscience (2 Corinthians 1:12).
CHARACTERISTICS OF THOSE WHO ARE OF THE TRUTH

- They obey God’s commandments – 1 John 3:24
- Their conscience is purified – Hebrews 10:22
- They walk in the light – 1 John 1:7

ILLUSTRATIONS
1. The Authentic Seal
A genuine document carries a seal that confirms its origin.
Without the seal, it is rejected.
Lesson:
Love, obedience, and a clear conscience are the seals that prove we are of the Truth.
Claims without evidence are invalid before God (2 Timothy 2:19).
2. The Mirror and the Face
A man looks into a mirror, sees dirt on his face, but walks away unchanged.
Lesson:
Hearing Truth without obeying it deceives the heart.
True knowledge of Truth results in transformation (James 1:23–25).
CALL TO REPENTANCE
Beloved,
- where words have replaced obedience,
- where conscience has been silenced,
- where love has grown cold, repent.
Truth is not defended by arguments but revealed through surrendered lives.
DEEP REPENTANCE
Lord, we acknowledge that many times we claimed Truth but lived contrary to it.
We repent of hypocrisy, self-deception, and selective obedience.
Purge our hearts from hidden sins and restore integrity within us.
PRAYER OF REPENTANCE
Father, in the name of Jesus,
I confess that I have not always walked in Truth.
I repent of loving in words and not in deeds.
Cleanse my heart by the blood of Jesus.
Align my conscience with Your Word.
Restore my joy, my boldness, and my assurance before You.
From today, I choose to live of the Truth,
In Jesus’ name.
Amen.

HYMN
John H. Sammis (1887)
Theme:
True assurance and fellowship with God come only through obedience.
1. When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.
Refrain:
Trust and obey,
for there's no other way
to be happy in Jesus,
but to trust and obey.
2. Not a burden we bear,
not a sorrow we share,
but our toil he doth richly repay;
not a grief or a loss,
not a frown or a cross,
but is blest if we trust and obey.
3. But we never can prove
the delights of his love
until all on the altar we lay;
for the favor he shows,
for the joy he bestows,
are for them who will trust and obey.
4. Then in fellowship sweet
we will sit at his feet,
or we'll walk by his side in the way;
what he says we will do,
where he sends we will go;
never fear, only trust and obey.
TODAY’S CHALLENGE
