𝕋𝕀𝕋𝕃𝔼:
BY THIS YOU KNOW THE SPIRIT OF GOD!

KEY VERSE

“By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God…” - 1 John 4:2 (NKJV)

DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE

In a generation flooded with voices, revelations, prophecies, ideologies, and spiritual claims, God did not leave His children confused or defenseless.

He gave us a clear, eternal test,

“By this you know the Spirit of God.”

The Spirit of God is not known by excitement, eloquence, miracles, or popularity.

He is known by truth, and truth has a name, Jesus Christ.

Any spirit, doctrine, movement, or voice that diminishes, denies, replaces, or redefines who Jesus is cannot be of God, no matter how spiritual it appears.

The Holy Spirit always:

  • Exalts Christ

  • Reveals Christ

  • Submits to the Word of Christ

  • Produces the life and character of Christ

Discerning the Spirit of God is not optional; it is essential for spiritual survival, maturity, and eternal destiny.

BIBLICAL OBJECTIVES OF DISCERNING THE SPIRIT OF GOD

  1. To know truth from error (1 John 4:1)

  2. To remain rooted in Christ (Colossians 2:6–7)

  3. To avoid deception in the last days (Matthew 24:24)

  4. To walk in spiritual maturity (Hebrews 5:14)

  5. To preserve sound doctrine (2 Timothy 1:13)

  6. To glorify Jesus alone (John 16:14)

  7. To build authentic faith (Romans 10:17)

  8. To manifest godly character (Galatians 5:22–23)

  9. To stand approved before God (2 Timothy 2:15)

  10. To inherit eternal life (John 17:3)

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE SPIRIT OF GOD

  1. Confesses Jesus as Lord incarnate (1 John 4:2)

  2. Aligns fully with Scripture (John 16:13)

  3. Produces holiness (Romans 8:13–14)

  4. Exalts Christ, not man (John 16:14)

  5. Convicts of sin and righteousness (John 16:8)

  6. Bears godly fruit (Galatians 5:22–23)

  7. Promotes love and truth (1 John 4:7–8)

  8. Leads into obedience (Ezekiel 36:27)

  9. Builds unity in Christ (Ephesians 4:3–4)

  10. Affirms Jesus as the only way (John 14:6)

ILLUSTRATIONS

1. The Counterfeit Currency

A counterfeit note may look genuine but fails under proper testing.

Likewise, many spirits appear spiritual but fail the test of Christ-centered truth.

Lesson:

Always test by Christ, not charisma.

2. The Compass and the Map

A compass without true north misleads travelers.

Any spirit that does not point to Jesus leads souls astray.

Lesson:

Jesus is the true north of all spiritual discernment.

A CALL TO REPENTANCE

Beloved, many have embraced:

Today, the Lord calls us back to:

DEEP REPENTANCE

Lord, we acknowledge that we have sometimes followed what felt good instead of what is true.

We repent of spiritual laziness, shallow discernment, and compromise with error.

PRAYER OF REPENTANCE

Father, in the name of Jesus,

I repent of every time I ignored Your Word and followed voices not rooted in Christ.

Cleanse my heart, renew my mind, and align my spirit with Your Spirit.

Let truth reign in me again,

In Jesus’ name.

Amen.
