THE WORDS OF TRUTH DAILY DEVOTIONAL
Dec 24th, 2025
𝕋𝕀𝕋𝕃𝔼:
HE LAID DOWN HIS LIFE FOR US!
KEY VERSE
“By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us.” – 1 John 3:16
DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE
The cross is not merely a historical event; it is the loudest revelation of God’s love.
Jesus did not die by accident, force, or helplessness, He chose the cross.
He laid down His life willingly, deliberately, and lovingly.
This truth reveals:
Jesus’ death was:
- Substitutionary (Isaiah 53:5);
- Sacrificial (John 10:11);
- Redemptive (Ephesians 1:7); and
- Transformational (Romans 5:8).
To truly understand Christianity, one must kneel at the cross and hear heaven say:
This is how much I love you!

ILLUSTRATIONS
1. The Substitute on Death Row
A man is sentenced to death.
On execution day, another steps forward and says,
I will take his place.
The law is satisfied, the guilty walks free, and the substitute dies.
Lesson:
Jesus took our sentence.
The cross was not sympathy, it was substitution.
2. The Shepherd and the Wolf
When the wolf attacked, the shepherd didn’t run.
He stood between the sheep and danger, bleeding, wounded, but victorious.
Lesson:
Jesus did not save us from a distance.
He entered our danger and laid down His life.
CALL TO REPENTANCE
How can we remain casual about sin when it nailed Jesus to the cross?
How can we live for ourselves when He died for us?
The cross demands a response, not admiration, but repentance.
DEEP REPENTANCE REFLECTION
- Have I taken His sacrifice lightly?
- Am I living as though His blood was cheap?
- Have I resisted the lordship of the One who died for me?
PRAYER OF REPENTANCE
Father,
I come before You broken and humbled.
I confess that I have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed.
I have lived for myself and not for Christ who died for me.
Wash me in the blood of Jesus.
Cleanse my heart.
Restore my love for the cross.
From today, I turn away from sin and surrender fully to You.
Thank You for laying down Your life for me.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

HYMN
When I Survey the Wondrous Cross
Isaac Watts (1707)
1. When I survey the wondrous Cross
on which the Prince of Glory died,
my richest gain I count but loss,
and pour contempt on all my pride.
2. Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast
save in the death of Christ, my God!
All the vain things that charm me most,
I sacrifice them through His Blood.
3. See, from His Head, His Hands, His Feet,
sorrow and love flow mingled down.
Did e'er such love and sorrow meet,
or thorns compose so rich a crown?
4. Were the whole realm of nature mine,
that were a present far too small.
Love so amazing, so divine,
demands my soul, my life, my all.
TODAY’S CHALLENGE
Live today as one bought with blood:
- Forgive someone
- Walk away from sin
- Love sacrificially
- Share the gospel boldly
DEEP REFLECTION
The cross asks one eternal question:
If He laid down His life for you, what are you laying down for Him?
WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT
You are not forgotten.
You are not unloved.
You are not rejected.
ETERNITY IN VIEW
The cross bridges time and eternity.
Those who embrace it reign forever;
Those who reject it lose everything.
CLOSING DECLARATION
Because Jesus laid down His life for me, I will live for Him fully, faithfully, and fearlessly.
