THE WORDS OF TRUTH DAILY DEVOTIONAL
Oct 20th, 2025
𝕋𝕀𝕋𝕃𝔼:
YOU ALSO WILL ABIDE IN THE SON AND IN THE FATHER
KEY VERSE
“And this is what He promised us—eternal life. As for you, see that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father.” – 1 John 2:24-25 (NIV)
DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE
To abide means to remain, dwell, or live continually in a relationship.
It speaks of unbroken fellowship, trust, and love.
John’s letter reminds believers that abiding in the Son and in the Father is the essence of eternal life, not a mere religious routine, but a living, growing, loving relationship with God.
Abiding in the Son (Jesus Christ) means to live in His truth, depend on His grace, and walk in His light daily.
Abiding in the Father means to rest in His will, trust in His wisdom, and reflect His nature.
This relationship is not built on emotions but on obedience, intimacy, and faith.
When we abide, we draw our life, power, and identity from God.
Just as branches cannot survive without the vine (John 15:4), we cannot flourish without constant communion with Him.
Many start well but fail to remain.
The secret to stability, victory, and fruitfulness is to abide, not occasionally visit, but live in continual fellowship with the Son and the Father.
CHARACTERISTICS OF THOSE WHO ABIDE IN THE SON AND THE FATHER

1. The Rooted Tree
A farmer planted two trees side by side.
One had deep roots reaching into underground water; the other had shallow roots.
When drought came, the shallow-rooted tree withered, but the deeply rooted one thrived.
Lesson: The one who abides in the Son and the Father has deep spiritual roots in truth and love, unmoved by storms or trials.
2. The Unplugged Lamp
A lamp shined brightly as long as it was plugged into the power source.
When unplugged, it went dark immediately.
Lesson: You cannot shine spiritually when disconnected from Christ.
Abiding keeps your light burning because your power comes from the continual presence of the Son and the Father.
CALL TO REPENTANCE
Have you drifted away from God, living more by routine than relationship?
Have you allowed distractions, sin, or pride to break your fellowship?
Abiding is not perfection; it’s staying connected to the Source of grace.
DEEP REPENTANCE
Let your heart cry today:
Father, I have wandered in self-dependence.
Forgive me for losing intimacy with You.
Restore the flame of my fellowship.
Let me dwell once again under Your covering, in Your love, and in Your will.
I long to abide continually in You.
PRAYER OF REPENTANCE
I confess that I have often neglected Your presence and failed to remain steadfast in Your Word.
Forgive me for every disconnection and coldness in my walk with You.
Lord Jesus, help me to abide in You daily, trusting, obeying, and walking in Your light.
Let my life bear the fruit of righteousness and peace.
Restore me to constant fellowship with You and the Father.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

HYMN
Abide with me: fast falls the eventide
Henry Francis Lyte (1847)
1. Abide with me: fast falls the eventide;
the darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.
2. Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day;
earth's joys grow dim, its glories pass away.
Change and decay in all around I see.
O thou who changest not, abide with me.
3. I need thy presence every passing hour.
What but thy grace can foil the tempter's power?
Who like thyself my guide and strength can be?
Through cloud and sunshine, O abide with me.
4. I fear no foe with thee at hand to bless,
ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness.
Where is death's sting? Where, grave, thy victory?
I triumph still, if thou abide with me.
5. Hold thou thy cross before my closing eyes.
Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies.
Heaven's morning breaks and earth's vain shadows flee;
in life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.
TODAY’S CHALLENGE
Take 30 minutes in quiet devotion today.
Read John 15 and meditate on what it means to abide.
Write one area where you’ve disconnected from God and one practical way to reconnect this week, through prayer, worship, or obedience.
DEEP REFLECTION
Abiding is not occasional contact with God; it’s continual communion.
The more you stay in fellowship, the more His nature shapes yours.
A disconnected heart dries up spiritually, but a heart that abides will overflow with divine life.
Ask yourself:
Am I living near God or just visiting occasionally?
CLOSING DECLARATION
I abide in the Son and in the Father!
His presence is my dwelling, His Word my foundation, His Spirit my strength.
I shall not be moved.
His love flows through me, His peace guards me, and His truth sustains me.
I live in constant fellowship with the Living God.
Amen!
