BELOVED, IT IS THE LAST HOUR!

THE WORDS OF TRUTH DAILY DEVOTIONAL

𝕋𝕀𝕋𝕃𝔼:
BELOVED, IT IS THE LAST HOUR!

KEY VERSE

“Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour.”1 John 2:18 (NKJV)

DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE

The phrase “last hour” speaks of urgency.

It does not mean 60 literal minutes, but rather the final phase of God’s plan for humanity before the return of Jesus Christ.

We are living in the closing moments of history.

Signs of the times: wars, lawlessness, false doctrines, moral decay, and the rise of false christs, confirm that the end is near (Matthew 24:4–14).

John’s warning is clear:

There are many deceivers and distractions in this last hour.

The call to us is not fear, but faithfulness.

It is a call to watchfulness, holiness, and urgency in preaching the gospel.

Time is running out; eternity is nearer than we think.

CHARACTERISTICS OF LIVING IN THE LAST HOUR

  1. Watchfulness – (Mark 13:33) Be alert and on guard.
  2. Holiness – (Hebrews 12:14) Pursue peace and holiness without which no one will see the Lord.
  3. Discernment – (1 John 4:1) Test the spirits; many false prophets have gone out.
  4. Urgency in Evangelism – (Matthew 24:14) The gospel must be preached to all nations.
  5. Perseverance – (Matthew 24:13) Endure to the end to be saved.
  6. Separation from the World – (Romans 12:2) Do not conform to this world.
  7. Hope of Christ’s Return – (Titus 2:13) Live in expectation of His appearing.

ILLUSTRATIONS

1. The Midnight Train

A man was waiting for a train scheduled to leave at midnight.

Thinking he had time, he wandered off to chat and buy snacks.

When he returned, the train had departed, leaving him stranded.

Lesson: The last hour is here.

If you delay in preparing for Christ’s coming, you risk being left behind.

2. The Leaking Oil Lamp

Two sets of five women carried lamps to meet the bridegroom.

The wise filled theirs with oil, but the foolish neglected it.

When the bridegroom came, only those prepared entered; the others were shut out (Matthew 25:1–13).

Lesson: The last hour requires constant readiness, spiritual “oil” in your lamp.

CALL TO REPENTANCE

Are you living as if there is plenty of time left?

Have worldly pursuits, pride, and sin dulled your sense of urgency?

Today, God calls you to repentance.

Don’t wait for tomorrow, it may be too late.

DEEP REPENTANCE

Cry out to God:

Lord, I have been careless with the time You gave me.

Forgive me for my lukewarmness and distractions.

I return to You with all my heart.

Cleanse me, restore me, and help me to live in readiness for Your coming.

PRAYER OF REPENTANCE

Father,

I confess that I have wasted precious time chasing things that do not matter for eternity.

Forgive me for ignoring the urgency of this last hour.

Lord Jesus, wash me in Your blood, renew my heart, and set me on fire for holiness and evangelism.

From today, I choose to live as one who is watchful, ready, and faithful until You come.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

REFLECTION SCRIPTURES

  2. 2 Timothy 3:1 – In the last days, perilous times will come.

  4. 1 Peter 4:7 – The end of all things is at hand; be serious and watchful in prayers.
  5. 2 Peter 3:9 – The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, but patient toward us.
  6. 1 Thessalonians 5:2-6 – The day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.

HYMN

Wake, Awake, for Night Is Flying
~ Philipp Nicolai (1599), Catherine Winkworth (1858)

1. Wake, awake! for night is flying,
The watchmen on the heights are crying;
Awake, Jerusalem, arise!
Midnight hears the welcome voices
And at the thrilling cry rejoices:
Oh, where are all you virgins wise?
The Bridegroom come, awake!
Your lamps with gladness take!
Alleluia!
With bridal care yourselves prepare
To meet the Bridegroom, who is near.

2. Zion hears the watchmen singing,
And all her heart with joy is springing;
She wakes, she rises from her gloom.
For her Lord comes down all-glorious,
The strong in grace, in truth victorious;
Her star is ris'n, her light is come.
Now come, O blessed One,
Christ Jesus, God's own Son.
Hail! Hosanna!
We enter all the marriage hall
To eat the supper at your call.

3. Now let all the heav'ns adore you,
Let saints and angels sing before you
With harp and cymbal's clearest tone.
Of one pearl each shining portal,
Where, dwelling with the choir immortal,
We gather round your radiant throne.
No vision ever brought,
No ear has ever caught
Such great glory;
Therefore will we in victory
Sing hymns of praise eternally.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE

Spend 30 minutes today in silence asking yourself:

If Jesus came today, would I be ready?

Then write down one habit you must change immediately to live with urgency.

DEEP REFLECTION

The clock of eternity is ticking.

Many are sleeping, distracted, or deceived.

But those who are wise will trim their lamps, prepare their hearts, and remain faithful until the very end.

The question is not whether Christ will return, but whether you will be ready when He does.

CLOSING DECLARATION

I am awake, alert, and watchful.

I will not be deceived by the spirit of this age.

The Word of God abides in me, the Spirit of God strengthens me, and I am ready for my Master’s return.

I will walk in holiness, truth, and urgency until the very end.

Amen.

PROPHETIC DECLARATION

I declare in the mighty name of Jesus:

I am a child of light, not of darkness.

I will not be caught unaware in this last hour.

The Spirit of God will keep me watchful, holy, and faithful.

I shall endure to the end, I shall overcome deception, and I shall reign with Christ in glory.

Amen!
