𝕋𝕀𝕋𝕃𝔼:
YOU HAVE KNOWN HIM WHO IS FROM THE BEGINNING!

KEY VERSE

“I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning.”1 John 2:13 (KJV)

DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE

To know God is not simply to have knowledge about Him but to walk in intimate fellowship with the Eternal One, the Alpha and the Omega, who was from the beginning (John 1:1).

John speaks of the mature believer, those who, through years of faith and obedience, have come to know Christ in a deep, personal way.

Knowing Him who is from the beginning means:

  • Trusting His eternal counsel.
  • Resting in His unchanging promises.
  • Walking faithfully in His truth regardless of circumstances.

It is a call to move beyond shallow Christianity and enter into deep communion with the Ancient of Days.

CHARACTERISTICS OF KNOWING HIM WHO IS FROM THE BEGINNING

  1. Intimacy with God – “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you” (James 4:8).
  2. Faith in His Eternal Word – “Forever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven” (Psalm 119:89).
  3. Stability in Trials – “Those who know Your name will put their trust in You” (Psalm 9:10).
  4. Maturity in Christ – “Solid food belongs to those who are of full age” (Hebrews 5:14).
  5. Obedience and Holiness – “If you love Me, keep My commandments” (John 14:15).
  6. Hope in Eternal Life – “This is life eternal, that they might know Thee the only true God” (John 17:3).
  7. Unshakable Confidence – “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever” (Hebrews 13:8).

ILLUSTRATIONS

1. The Old Oak Tree

A young man once planted a tiny oak seed.

After many storms, decades later, it grew into a mighty tree, standing firm against the fiercest winds.

Lesson: Those who have known Him who is from the beginning are deeply rooted in God, storms of life cannot uproot them.

2. The Skilled Captain

A ship’s captain with decades of experience guided his vessel through treacherous waters while younger sailors panicked.

He said calmly:

“I’ve known these waters for years. They are fierce, but I know the way through.”

Lesson: Those who truly know God rest in His eternal wisdom and calmly navigate life’s storms with faith.

CALL TO REPENTANCE

Are you walking in shallow faith, easily shaken by trials, or treating God as a stranger?

Today, repent from spiritual immaturity and seek to know Him deeply, not just as Savior but as Lord from eternity.

DEEP REPENTANCE

Take a moment to confess areas where you have neglected His Word, doubted His promises, or lived without deep fellowship.

Ask God to draw you closer into maturity and intimacy with Him.

Heavenly Father,

I acknowledge that I have not always walked in true fellowship with You.

Today, I return to You wholeheartedly.

Lord Jesus, Eternal Word from the beginning, draw me deeper into Your presence.

Teach me Your ways, ground me in Your truth, and help me walk in maturity and holiness.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

HYMN

Be Thou My Vision
~ Eleanor H. Hull (1912)

1. Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me save that thou art.
Thou my best thought by day and by night;
Waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.

2. Be thou my wisdom, and thou my true Word;
I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord.
Thou my great Father, I thy dear child;
Thou in me dwelling, with thee reconciled.

3. Be thou my breastplate, my sword for the fight;
Be thou my dignity, thou my delight.
Thou my soul's shelter, thou my high tow'r;
Raise thou me Heav'nward, O Pow'r of my pow'r.

4. Riches I heed not, nor vain, empty praise;
Thou mine inheritance, now and always.
Thou and thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my treasure thou art.

5. High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven's joys, O bright Heav'ns Sun!
Heart of my heart, whatever befall,
Still be my vision, O Ruler of all.
