DEVOTIONAL TITLE: WHY ARE YOU HERE?

Discovering Your God-Given Purpose!

KEY VERSE:

“Then the Lord said, ‘What are you doing here, Elijah?’” — 1 Kings 19:9 (NIV)

DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE:

There comes a point in every journey where God stops us with a soul-piercing question:

“Why are you here?”

He asked it of Elijah—not because He didn’t know the answer, but because Elijah had forgotten his purpose. The mighty prophet who once called fire from heaven was now hiding in a cave, running from fear, lost in despair.

Like Elijah, we can find ourselves out of position—driven by burnout, rejection, or confusion. And just like Elijah, God meets us in that quiet place not with thunder, but with a still, small voice, saying:

“This is not the end. I still have work for you to do.”

“Why are you here?” is a call back to purpose, to presence, and to God’s perspective.

The Misplaced Tool

A hammer lies on the kitchen counter. It’s out of place. It’s not broken—but it’s not being used for what it was made for.

It was designed for building, but now it just sits—unnoticed, unused.

Many believers are like that hammer. Functional but out of purpose.

But when placed back in the Builder’s hands, the hammer becomes powerful again—not because it changed, but because it’s back where it belongs.

REFLECTION:

Are you hiding in a cave of fear or burnout?

Have you drifted from the reason God placed you where you are?

Are you measuring your purpose by people’s reactions or God’s instructions?

God doesn’t just want you busy—He wants you aligned with why you’re here. Even in weakness, your life is filled with divine purpose.

PRAYER:

Lord,

Help me remember why I’m here.

When I’m weary or off-course, remind me that You called me, appointed me, and still have purpose for me.

I surrender every fear and distraction.

Use me where I am, for why I’m here.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Ask God in prayer:

“Lord, why am I here—in this role, this place, this season?”

Journal what He reveals. Your assignment may not always be easy, but it is always eternal in value.
