LIVING A LIFE THAT REFLECTS CHRIST

ANCHOR SCRIPTURE

"Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. He who does good is of God, but he who does evil has not seen God." - 3 John 1:11 (NKJV)

DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE

The Apostle John lovingly exhorts believers not to imitate evil but to imitate good. Every believer is constantly surrounded by examples, some godly and others ungodly. The warning is clear: do not copy the lifestyle, values, or conduct of those who reject God's ways. Instead, imitate those whose lives reflect Christ.

Doing good is not merely performing random acts of kindness; it is living in obedience to God's Word, loving others sincerely, speaking the truth, forgiving offenders, showing mercy, practicing integrity, and seeking God's glory in every area of life.

John states that "He who does good is of God." Genuine goodness flows from a transformed heart. Salvation changes a person's character. While good works do not earn salvation, they are the evidence that one truly belongs to God (Ephesians 2:8–10). A life consistently marked by hatred, deceit, wickedness, and rebellion reveals a heart that has not truly known Christ.

The Christian is called to become a living testimony of God's goodness. Our homes, workplaces, churches, businesses, schools, and communities should experience God's love through our words, attitudes, and actions. We become the light of the world when we consistently choose righteousness over compromise.

In a generation where evil is often celebrated and compromise is normalized, believers must remain unwavering. Every opportunity to forgive instead of retaliate, to give instead of exploit, to tell the truth instead of lie, and to love instead of hate proves that Christ truly reigns within us.

May our daily conduct point others to Jesus Christ until He returns.

8. They show mercy (Matthew 5:7).
9. They pursue holiness (Hebrews 12:14).
10. They persevere in doing good (Galatians 6:9).

ILLUSTRATIONS

1. The Good Tree and Its Fruit

A healthy mango tree naturally produces sweet mangoes. It does not struggle to produce its fruit because its nature determines its harvest.

Lesson: A heart transformed by Christ naturally produces righteous living. Good works are the fruit of genuine salvation.

2. The Light in a Dark Street

One bright streetlight changes the atmosphere of an entire dark street. Though darkness surrounds it, its light remains visible.

Lesson: One committed believer can influence an entire family, office, school, church, or community through consistent godly living.

CALL TO REPENTANCE

Examine your life honestly before God. Have your words, actions, relationships, business dealings, and attitudes reflected Christ? Repent of every hidden sin, compromise, bitterness, dishonesty, hypocrisy, and disobedience. Ask the Holy Spirit to transform your heart completely.

DEEP REPENTANCE

Father, I acknowledge that many times I have failed to reflect Your goodness. I repent of every selfish ambition, pride, unforgiveness, deceit, anger, and every work of darkness. Wash me thoroughly by the precious blood of Jesus. Create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me. Let my life become a true reflection of Christ every day.

PRAYER OF REPENTANCE

Lord Jesus, I confess all my sins before You. Forgive me for every evil thought, word, action, and omission. Cleanse me by Your precious blood. Fill me afresh with Your Holy Spirit. Help me to walk in righteousness and to do good continually. Make my life pleasing unto You until the end. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

TODAY'S CHALLENGE

Choose one intentional act of Christ-like goodness today. Forgive someone, help someone in need, encourage a discouraged person, restore a broken relationship, or generously support God's work without expecting recognition.

DEEP REFLECTION

If people judged Christ solely by observing your daily life, would they clearly see His love, holiness, humility, integrity, and goodness?

WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

God sees every act of obedience done in His name. Even when your kindness is unnoticed or misunderstood, your heavenly Father remembers it. Continue walking faithfully, for your labor in the Lord is never in vain.

ETERNITY IN VIEW

Our earthly lives are temporary, but our eternal rewards are everlasting. Every act of goodness done for Christ will be remembered on the Day of Judgment. Live today with eternity in view, seeking God's approval above human applause.

CLOSING DECLARATION

Today I choose to reject every form of evil and embrace God's righteousness. My thoughts, words, and actions shall glorify Jesus Christ. I will walk in love, truth, holiness, humility, and integrity. My life shall continually reveal that I belong to God, in Jesus' Name. Amen.

WORDS OF TRUTH

True Christianity is revealed not only by what we profess but by how we live. Every day presents a choice to imitate evil or to imitate Christ. Those who truly know God will increasingly reflect His goodness through holy character, sacrificial love, faithful obedience, and righteous deeds. Therefore, let your life preach Christ louder than your words, for "he who does good is of God." May your conduct continually testify that you are a child of the living God, until Christ comes again. Amen.
