WALKING IN THE TRUTH THROUGH LOVE AND OBEDIENCE - Pt 1
ANCHOR SCRIPTURE:
"And now I plead with you, dear lady, not as though I were writing you a new commandment, but the one we have had from the beginning: that we love one another." — 2 John 1:5
INTRODUCTION
John’s words reveal the heart of a spiritual father who does not command with pride but appeals with love. The Christian walk is not merely about knowing the truth but allowing the truth to produce love, humility, obedience, and Christ-like character.
DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE
The phrase “and now I plead with you” carries a deep spiritual meaning. It is not a harsh demand but a loving appeal from one who understands the danger of drifting away from God’s truth.
The Apostle John wrote to believers who had received the truth of Christ. His concern was that their faith would not become only words but a lifestyle. He reminded them that the greatest evidence of walking in truth is love expressed through obedience to God’s commandments.
Truth without love can become cold religion.
Love without truth can become human compromise.
But when truth and love walk together, they reveal the character of Christ.
God is still pleading with His children today:
- Return to sincere devotion.
- Walk away from compromise.
- Love as Christ loves.
- Obey His Word completely.
- Let your life become a testimony of truth.
The world does not only need Christians who speak truth; it needs believers whose lives demonstrate the transforming power of truth.

ILLUSTRATIONS
1. The Loving Father’s Warning
A father saw his child walking toward a dangerous path. He did not shout from anger; he ran with concern and said, “My child, please come back.”
The child understood that the father’s warning was not rejection but protection.
Lesson:
God’s correction is an expression of His love. His pleadings are invitations back into safety.
2. The Broken Compass
A traveler ignored his compass because he believed he knew the way. After hours of walking, he discovered he had moved in the wrong direction.
Lesson:
The Word of God is our spiritual compass. Ignoring truth leads to spiritual confusion.
CALL TO REPENTANCE
Dear Father, I come before You acknowledging that there are areas where I have not fully walked in Your truth. Forgive me for moments when I have chosen my own ways above Your commandments.
I return to You today. I surrender my heart, my thoughts, my decisions, and my actions. Teach me to love as Christ loves and obey Your Word completely.
DEEP REPENTANCE
Lord, I repent for every form of:
- Spiritual negligence.
- Hidden compromise.
- Disobedience.
- Pride.
- Unforgiveness.
- Lack of love.
- Ignoring Your instructions.
Wash my heart from every attitude that does not reflect Christ. Remove every desire that competes with Your will. Restore my passion for holiness and truth.
PRAYER OF REPENTANCE
Heavenly Father,
I confess that I need Your mercy and transformation. I repent from every way I have walked outside Your truth.
Create in me a faithful heart. Let my life reflect Your love. Help me not only to hear Your Word but to practice it daily.
Let my actions, words, and relationships bring glory to Your name.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

HYMN
Take My Life, and Let It Be
Frances Ridley Havergal (1874)
Message:
A prayer of complete surrender, asking God to take every part of our lives and use it for His glory.
Take my life and let it be
consecrated, Lord, to thee.
Take my moments and my days;
let them flow in endless praise,
let them flow in endless praise.
TODAY’S CHALLENGE
Today:
- Examine your heart.
- Identify one area where you need greater obedience.
- Show genuine love to someone.
- Spend time studying God’s Word.
- Make one decision that reflects Christ’s character.
DEEP REFLECTION
Am I only carrying the name of Christ, or am I truly living according to His truth?
Does my love demonstrate that I belong to Jesus?
What is God pleading with me to surrender today?
WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT
God’s pleading is not a sign of rejection; it is evidence of His desire for deeper fellowship with you.
The same God who calls you to truth also gives you grace to walk in it.
Your obedience today can become tomorrow’s testimony.
ETERNITY IN VIEW
One day every believer will stand before Christ. The question will not only be:
“What did you know?”
but:
“Did you live according to the truth you received?”
A life surrendered to truth and love is a life prepared for eternity.
