WALKING IN THE LOVE THAT OBEYS CHRIST
ANCHOR SCRIPTURE
"And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it." - 2 John 1:6 (KJV)
KEY VERSE
"If ye love me, keep my commandments." - John 14:15 (KJV)
DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE
Many people define love only by words, emotions, gifts, or affection, but Scripture reveals that true love toward God is demonstrated through obedience. The apostle John teaches that love is not merely a confession; it is a lifestyle that follows the ways and instructions of Christ.
The commandment John refers to is the commandment of love; loving God wholeheartedly and loving others according to God’s standard. This love is not controlled by convenience, feelings, or circumstances; it is rooted in truth, holiness, sacrifice, and obedience.
To walk in the commandment means allowing God’s Word to guide our decisions, relationships, priorities, and character. A person who truly loves Christ does not treat His instructions as burdens but as the pathway of life.
Obedience is the evidence of a transformed heart. We cannot claim to love God while continually rejecting His voice. The greatest expression of our devotion is not only what we say in worship but how we live when no one is watching.
God’s commandment calls us to:
- Walk in truth.
- Practice righteousness.
- Forgive others.
- Show compassion.
- Reject sin.
- Remain faithful to Christ.
The world often promotes a love without boundaries, but Christ teaches a love governed by truth. Real love does not encourage destruction; it leads to life.

1. THE CHILD WHO OBEYED HIS FATHER
A father warned his child not to play near a dangerous area. The child trusted his father’s wisdom and obeyed even without understanding the reason.
Later, the child discovered that the place was unsafe.
Lesson:
Obedience is an expression of trust. God’s commandments are not restrictions to limit us but instructions to protect us.
2. THE FAITHFUL SERVANT
A servant was given instructions by his master. Another servant ignored the instructions because he thought his own way was better. The faithful servant was rewarded because he valued the master’s word.
Lesson:
God honours those who value His Word above personal desires. Love for God is proven through obedience.
CALL TO REPENTANCE
Father, I come before You acknowledging that I have not always walked according to Your commandment. I repent for every area where my actions, choices, words, and attitudes have not reflected the love of Christ.
Forgive me for moments when I have placed my desires above Your instructions. Restore my heart and help me walk in Your truth.
DEEP REPENTANCE
Lord Jesus, search my heart and reveal every hidden disobedience within me. I repent for every time I have heard Your Word but failed to obey it.
I repent for loving convenience more than commitment, comfort more than correction, and my own ways more than Your perfect will.
Cleanse my heart from pride, rebellion, bitterness, unforgiveness, and every attitude that prevents me from walking in love.
Create in me a heart that desires Your commandments and delights in Your truth.
PRAYER OF REPENTANCE
Heavenly Father,
I confess my sins before You. I acknowledge that true love for You is shown through obedience.
Forgive me and wash me clean through the power of Christ. Give me grace to obey Your Word, follow Your commandments, and represent Jesus faithfully.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

HYMN
Trust and Obey
John Henry Sammis (lyrics, 1887), Daniel Brink Towner
Message:
The hymn teaches that walking with God requires both faith and obedience.
When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.
Refrain:
Trust and obey,
for there's no other way
to be happy in Jesus,
but to trust and obey.
TODAY’S CHALLENGE
Today, identify one area where God has been calling you to obey Him. Take practical action. Let your love for Christ become visible through your choices.
DEEP REFLECTION
Am I only speaking about my love for God, or is my life proving it?
Do my daily decisions show that Christ is truly Lord over my life?
WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT
Beloved, God’s commandments are not chains; they are pathways into His blessings and protection. Every step of obedience brings you closer to His purpose.
You may not always understand everything God asks, but you can always trust the One who commands you.
A heart that obeys God becomes a vessel that carries His presence.
ETERNITY IN VIEW
One day, every life will stand before God. The question will not only be what we claimed to believe but whether our lives reflected Christ.
Those who walk in God’s commandment demonstrate a faith that is alive and prepared for eternity.

WORDS OF TRUTH
Love without obedience is only a declaration; love with obedience is a testimony.
The greatest proof that Christ lives in us is not our words alone, but our willingness to walk in His commandment.
"This is the commandment: Walk in love, walk in truth, and walk with Christ."
