THE WORDS OF TRUTH DAILY DEVOTIONAL
May 14th, 2026
πππππΌ:
WHEN GOD SAYS: “DO NOT PRAY FOR THAT SIN”
KEY VERSE:
“If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.” — 1 John 5:16
DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE
The statement, “I do not say that he should pray about that,” is one of the most sobering warnings in Scripture. The Apostle John reveals that there comes a point where persistent, hardened, deliberate rebellion against God becomes dangerously destructive. This passage does not teach believers to stop caring for sinners, but it warns against treating sin lightly.
There are sins committed in weakness, ignorance, and human frailty for which mercy, repentance, restoration, and intercession remain available. However, there is also a condition where a person continuously rejects conviction, mocks righteousness, suppresses truth, and stubbornly embraces evil without repentance. Such rebellion hardens the heart and invites divine judgment.
Just as spiritual laws are certain, the consequences of unrepented sin are also certain. God is merciful, but He is also holy and just. The danger is not merely committing sin, but refusing correction, despising grace, and becoming spiritually insensitive.
Examples abound in Scripture:
- Pharaoh repeatedly hardened his heart until destruction came.
- Judas Iscariot continually yielded to greed and betrayal until ruin overtook him.
- Ananias and Sapphira lied against the Holy Spirit and faced immediate judgment.
God calls His people today to genuine repentance, humility, holiness, and obedience. We must never play with sin or assume unlimited opportunities to repent later. Every ignored conviction weakens spiritual sensitivity. Every act of rebellion hardens the conscience.
Yet, while there is breath, there is hope for anyone willing to genuinely repent. Christ still saves, cleanses, restores, and transforms all who come sincerely to Him.

ILLUSTRATIONS
1. THE CRACKED FOUNDATION
A man noticed tiny cracks in the foundation of his house, but ignored repeated warnings to repair them. Over time, the cracks widened until the entire structure collapsed during a storm.
Lessons:
- Small tolerated sins eventually become destructive.
- Ignoring correction leads to disaster.
- Repentance should never be postponed.
2. THE DYING EMBER

- Persistent sin extinguishes spiritual passion.
- Fellowship with God preserves spiritual strength.
CALL TO REPENTANCE
Beloved, God’s mercy is still speaking today. Do not harden your heart. Do not excuse hidden sins, bitterness, pride, immorality, unforgiveness, rebellion, or hypocrisy. Run to Jesus while grace is available. The Lord desires restoration, not destruction.
DEEP REPENTANCE
True repentance is not emotional sorrow alone. It is a complete turning away from sin and surrendering fully to Christ. Genuine repentance produces changed behavior, renewed desires, humility, and obedience to God’s Word.
PRAYER OF REPENTANCE
Heavenly Father,
I confess my sins before You today. Forgive every act of disobedience, pride, rebellion, and secret sin in my life. Wash me with the blood of Jesus Christ. Remove every hardened attitude from my heart. Restore my sensitivity to Your Spirit. Help me to walk in holiness, humility, and obedience. Deliver me from spiritual carelessness and grant me grace to remain faithful until the end.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.

HYMN
Just As I Am
Charlotte Elliott (1835)
Message: This hymn emphasizes sincere repentance, surrender, and coming to Christ without excuses.
1. Just as I am, without one plea,
but that thy blood was shed for me,
and that thou bidd'st me come to thee,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.
2. Just as I am, and waiting not
to rid my soul of one dark blot,
to thee, whose blood can cleanse each spot,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.
3. Just as I am, though tossed about
with many a conflict, many a doubt,
fightings and fears within, without,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.
4. Just as I am, thou wilt receive,
wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve;
because thy promise I believe,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.
