UNDERSTANDING THE TRUE GOD THROUGH JESUS CHRIST

ANCHOR SCRIPTURE

“And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.” — 1 John 5:20 (KJV)

DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE

The greatest gift God gives after salvation is spiritual understanding. Many people possess earthly wisdom, academic knowledge, financial intelligence, and human philosophies, yet remain spiritually blind concerning the true knowledge of God. The coming of Jesus Christ was not only to save humanity from sin, but also to open the eyes of mankind to divine truth and eternal realities.

The Apostle John boldly declared that the Son of God has come and has given believers understanding. This understanding is not ordinary reasoning; it is spiritual illumination produced by the Holy Spirit. It enables believers to know God personally, discern truth from error, recognize deception, understand the Scriptures, walk in righteousness, and live with eternity in view.

Without divine understanding, people can attend church and still not know God. They may practice religion yet remain far from the truth. Spiritual understanding brings intimacy with God and establishes believers firmly in Christ. Jesus Christ reveals the Father perfectly because He is the true God and eternal life.

In a world filled with confusion, false doctrines, material distractions, and spiritual darkness, believers must seek deeper revelation through prayer, obedience, meditation on Scripture, and fellowship with the Holy Spirit. Divine understanding protects believers from deception and strengthens their faith during trials.

The understanding Christ gives transforms character, renews the mind, produces holiness, and empowers believers to fulfill God’s purpose. It also prepares believers for eternity because true understanding always leads to godly living.

Therefore, every believer must continually pray for spiritual insight. It is dangerous to live by emotions, assumptions, traditions, or worldly opinions. Only the light of Christ can guide humanity into truth and everlasting life.

ILLUSTRATIONS

1. SOLOMON ASKED FOR UNDERSTANDING

When God appeared to Solomon and asked him what he desired, Solomon did not ask for riches, long life, or the death of enemies. He requested wisdom and understanding to lead God’s people rightly. God was pleased with his request and gave him wisdom beyond measure alongside honor and prosperity — 1 Kings 3:5-13.

2. THE EMMAUS DISCIPLES RECEIVED UNDERSTANDING

After the resurrection of Jesus, two disciples walked sorrowfully on the road to Emmaus because they lacked understanding of God’s plan. Jesus opened the Scriptures to them and their hearts burned with revelation — Luke 24:13-32.

CALL TO REPENTANCE

Repent from spiritual laziness, pride, ignorance of Scripture, disobedience, and dependence on worldly wisdom. Return wholeheartedly to God and ask Him to illuminate your heart with divine truth through Jesus Christ.

DEEP REPENTANCE

Lord, forgive every area where I have depended on human reasoning more than Your Word. Cleanse me from spiritual blindness, stubbornness, and unbelief. Remove every veil covering my understanding and draw me into deeper revelation of Your truth. Let my life reflect genuine knowledge of Christ and obedience to Your will.

PRAYER OF REPENTANCE

Heavenly Father, I come before You in humility and repentance. Forgive my sins and every act of disobedience. Wash me in the blood of Jesus Christ. Open my spiritual eyes to know You truly. Deliver me from deception, pride, and spiritual ignorance. Fill me with the Holy Spirit and grant me divine understanding to walk in truth and righteousness all the days of my life. In Jesus’ name. Spend quality time today studying God’s Word prayerfully and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal one truth that will transform your spiritual life permanently.

• Do I truly know God personally or only religiously?
• Is my understanding shaped by Scripture or by the world?
• What spiritual truths have I ignored or resisted?
• Am I growing in discernment and holiness daily?
• If Christ returns today, will I be found walking in truth?

WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

God desires to reveal Himself to His children. No matter how confused, discouraged, or spiritually dry you may feel, the Holy Spirit can illuminate your heart again. As you seek God sincerely, He will guide you into deeper understanding, wisdom, peace, and spiritual maturity.

ETERNITY IN VIEW

Earthly wisdom without Christ ends in eternal separation from God, but divine understanding through Jesus Christ leads to eternal life. Live daily with heaven in focus and remain steadfast in truth until the end.

CLOSING DECLARATION

I declare that Jesus Christ has given me understanding. My spiritual eyes are opened. I walk in truth, wisdom, holiness, and discernment. I reject deception and darkness. I know the true God through Jesus Christ, and eternal life dwells within me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
