THE POWER OF INTERCESSORY PRAYER FOR A FALLEN BROTHER
ANCHOR SCRIPTURE
"If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death..." - 1 John 5:16 (KJV)
KEY VERSE
"Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness..." - Galatians 6:1
DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE
One of the greatest demonstrations of divine love is intercession. God is searching for believers who will not ignore the spiritual downfall of others but will stand in prayer for their restoration. The statement, “He will ask!” is a divine instruction and a heavenly responsibility. God expects His children to ask, pray, intercede, cry, and stand in the gap for others.
Many believers today watch fellow Christians fall into sin, discouragement, addiction, compromise, bitterness, prayerlessness, immorality, and spiritual weakness without lifting a sincere prayer for them. Instead of praying, many criticize, mock, condemn, expose, and abandon wounded souls. But heaven says, “He shall ask.”
Intercessory prayer is powerful because it invites divine mercy into another person’s life. When Abraham interceded, Lot was remembered. When Moses prayed, Israel was preserved. When Jesus prayed for Peter, his faith did not completely fail. Prayer can rescue a soul from destruction.
The enemy delights in isolated believers. Satan knows that when nobody prays, spiritual collapse becomes easier. But when believers intercede, chains break, conviction returns, strength is renewed, and restoration begins.
The church must return to the ministry of burden-bearing prayer. Every believer should become a spiritual watchman. Instead of celebrating another person’s weakness, we should cry unto God for mercy over their lives.
Sometimes the fallen brother may not even realize how far he has drifted. But the eyes of spiritual men and women must see beyond outward appearances and respond with compassion. God is calling believers into deeper love, deeper mercy, and deeper intercession.
True Christianity is not only about praying for ourselves. It is also about standing before God for others. The question is: Who are you praying for? Heaven is still asking for intercessors.

ILLUSTRATIONS
1. THE BROKEN WALL
A city wall developed a dangerous crack. Everyone passing by complained about it, but nobody repaired it. One man finally stood in the gap and repaired the broken place before disaster came.
Lesson:
Many believers notice spiritual cracks in others, but only true intercessors stand in prayer to restore them.
2. THE BURNING LAMP
A lamp was gradually losing its flame. Instead of throwing it away, the owner carefully added oil and protected the wick until the fire burned brightly again.
Lesson:
Fallen believers need restoration, encouragement, mercy, and prayer, not condemnation.
CALL TO REPENTANCE
Repent if you have mocked struggling believers instead of praying for them. Repent from spiritual pride, gossip, criticism, bitterness, and prayerlessness. Ask God to give you the heart of an intercessor.
DEEP REPENTANCE
Father, forgive me for every time I ignored the spiritual pain of others. Forgive me for speaking against wounded believers instead of standing in prayer for them. Deliver me from pride and selfishness. Fill me with genuine love and compassion for souls.
PRAYER OF REPENTANCE
Lord Jesus, cleanse my heart from judgmental attitudes and spiritual carelessness. Teach me to love as You love. Make me a vessel of restoration and intercession. Help me to stand in the gap for others faithfully, in Jesus’ name.

HYMN
Rescue the Perishing
Author: Fanny Crosby
Composer: William Howard Doane
"Rescue the perishing, care for the dying,
Snatch them in pity from sin and the grave..."
Message of the Hymn:
The hymn emphasizes compassion, restoration, soul-winning, and intercessory concern for those who are spiritually weak.
1. Rescue the perishing, care for the dying,
snatch them in pity from sin and the grave;
weep o’er the erring one, lift up the fallen,
tell them of Jesus the mighty to save.
Refrain:
Rescue the perishing,
care for the dying;
Jesus is merciful,
Jesus will save.
2. Though they are slighting Him, still He is waiting,
waiting the penitent child to receive;
plead with them earnestly, plead with them gently;
He will forgive if they only believe.
3. Down in the human heart, crushed by the tempter,
feelings lie buried that grace can restore;
touched by a loving heart, wakened by kindness,
cords that are broken will vibrate once more.
4. Rescue the perishing, duty demands it—
strength for your labor the Lord will provide;
back to the narrow way patiently win them,
tell the poor wand'rer a Savior has died.
