ABIDING IN THE TRUE GOD THROUGH HIS SON JESUS CHRIST
ANCHOR SCRIPTURE
“And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.” — 1 John 5:20 (KJV)
DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE
The world is filled with false identities, false teachings, false hopes, and false gods. Many people claim to know God, yet reject His Son, Jesus Christ. However, the Scriptures make it clear that true knowledge of God is found only through Jesus Christ. The Son of God came to give humanity spiritual understanding so we can know the True God personally and live in eternal fellowship with Him.
To abide in Jesus Christ means to remain connected to Him daily through faith, obedience, holiness, prayer, and truth. Christianity is not merely religion or church attendance; it is a living relationship with God through His Son. Outside Jesus Christ, there is spiritual darkness, confusion, and eternal separation from God. But in Christ, there is light, truth, peace, salvation, and eternal life.
Jesus Christ is not one of many ways to God; He is the only way. Through His death and resurrection, He reconciled humanity back to the Father. Whoever believes in Him receives forgiveness, spiritual understanding, divine sonship, and eternal hope.
Many believers know about Jesus but do not truly abide in Him. To abide in Christ is to surrender completely to His authority. It means allowing His Word to shape your thoughts, decisions, desires, and lifestyle. When believers remain in Christ, they bear spiritual fruit, overcome temptation, walk in discernment, and grow in intimacy with God.
The apostle John boldly declared that Jesus Christ Himself is “the true God and eternal life.” This reveals the divinity of Christ and the certainty of salvation in Him. The believer must therefore reject compromise, worldly deception, and lukewarmness. Our confidence, identity, future, and eternity must remain rooted in Christ alone.
Today, God is calling His children into deeper fellowship with His Son. This is a season to renew your commitment, reject spiritual distractions, and remain steadfast in the truth of the Gospel. Eternal life is not found in possessions, achievements, titles, or earthly pleasures, it is found only in Jesus Christ.

ILLUSTRATIONS
1. The Branch Without the Vine
A branch disconnected from the vine may appear fresh for a short time, but eventually it dries up because it has lost its source of life. Likewise, believers who disconnect themselves from Christ through sin, prayerlessness, compromise, and neglect of God’s Word gradually lose spiritual strength.
Lessons:
- Jesus Christ is the believer’s source of life and strength.
- Spiritual dryness begins when fellowship with Christ is neglected.
- Continuous abiding produces lasting fruitfulness.
Reference: John 15:4-5
2. The Lighthouse in the Storm
A lighthouse remains steady during storms and guides lost ships safely to shore. Jesus Christ is the believer’s eternal lighthouse in a world filled with confusion, temptation, and darkness.
Lessons:
- Christ remains constant in uncertain times.
- The truth of God guides believers safely.
- Those who follow Christ will not remain in darkness.
Reference: John 8:12
CALL TO REPENTANCE
God is calling you today to return wholeheartedly to Jesus Christ. If your love for God has grown cold, if sin has weakened your fellowship with Him, or if worldly distractions have occupied your heart, this is the moment to repent sincerely. Eternal life is found only in Christ. Do not harden your heart against His voice.
DEEP REPENTANCE
Examine your life honestly before God. Have you truly been abiding in Christ, or merely maintaining outward religion? Repent from hidden sins, pride, unforgiveness, compromise, hypocrisy, prayerlessness, bitterness, immorality, and spiritual laziness. Ask God to renew your heart and restore your intimacy with Him.
PRAYER OF REPENTANCE
Heavenly Father,
I come before You in humility and sincerity. Forgive me for every sin, every act of disobedience, and every way I have drifted from Your presence. Cleanse my heart through the blood of Jesus Christ. Remove every worldly desire that competes with my love for You. Fill me anew with Your Spirit and help me to abide faithfully in Christ every day of my life. Let my life reflect Your truth, holiness, and love. Thank You for Your mercy and salvation through Jesus Christ.
Amen.

HYMN
Jesus, Keep Me Near the Cross
Fanny J. Crosby (1869)
Message:
This hymn emphasizes continual dependence upon Jesus Christ, His sacrifice, grace, and the believer’s hope of eternal life through Him.
1. Jesus, keep me near the cross,
There a precious fountain;
Free to all, a healing stream,
Flows from Calv'ry's mountain.
Refrain:
In the cross, in the cross
Be my glory ever,
Till my ransomed soul shall find
Rest beyond the river.
2. Near the cross, a trembling soul,
Love and mercy found me;
There the Bright and Morning Star
Shed His beams around me.
3. Near the cross! O lamb of God,
Bring its scenes before me;
Help me walk from day to day
With its shadow o'er me.
4. Near the cross! I'll watch and wait,
Hoping, trusting ever;
Till I reach the golden strand,
Just beyond the river.
