THE WATER OF LIFE: WALKING IN PURITY AND SPIRITUAL REALITY
KEY VERSE
“And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.” — 1 John 5:8
DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE
“The Water” in Scripture symbolizes cleansing, life, renewal, and the Word of God. In 1 John 5:8, water stands as a witness alongside the Spirit and the blood, revealing God’s complete work in salvation and transformation.
Water cleanses. Just as physical water washes away dirt, the Word of God purifies the heart. Many people desire spiritual growth, yet neglect the daily “washing” that comes from God’s Word. Without this cleansing, the soul becomes clouded with sin, distraction, and confusion.
Water also gives life. Without it, nothing survives. Spiritually, a believer without the living water of Christ becomes dry, weary, and powerless. Jesus spoke of this living water as something that flows continuously, not something you taste once, but something you live in.
Water refreshes. Life can leave you burdened, tired, and spiritually drained. But when you return to God, His presence restores your strength and renews your inner being.
Finally, water represents obedience. Baptism itself is an outward sign of inward transformation, a life surrendered and aligned with God’s truth.
To embrace “The Water” is to live a life continually cleansed, refreshed, and aligned with God’s Spirit and truth.

ILLUSTRATIONS
1. THE DRY WELL
A man owned a well that once overflowed with water, but over time, he stopped maintaining it. Dirt filled it, and eventually it dried up.
Lesson: Neglecting God’s Word leads to spiritual dryness. Regular cleansing and refilling are essential.
2. THE FLOWING RIVER
A river constantly flows, never becoming stagnant. It nourishes everything around it.
Lesson: A life connected to God continuously flows with purpose, blessing others.
CALL TO REPENTANCE
God is calling you back to the place of purity. If your spiritual life has become dry, distracted, or compromised, return to the cleansing water of His Word.
DEEP REPENTANCE
Examine your heart. Where have you ignored God’s voice? Where have impurities taken root? True repentance is not just confession, it is transformation.
PRAYER OF REPENTANCE

HYMN
There Is a Fountain Filled with Blood
William Cowper (1772)
A powerful hymn emphasizing cleansing and redemption through Christ.
1. There is a fountain filled with blood
Drawn from Immanuel's veins;
And sinners, plunged beneath that flood,
Lose all their guilty stains:
Lose all their guilty stains,
Lose all their guilty stains;
And sinners, plunged beneath that flood,
Lose all their guilty stains.
2. The dying thief rejoiced to see
That fountain in his day;
And there may I, though vile as he,
Wash all my sins away:
Wash all my sins away,
Wash all my sins away;
And there may I, though vile as he,
Wash all my sins away.
3. Dear dying Lamb, Thy precious blood
Shall never lose its pow'r,
Till all the ransomed Church of God
Be saved, to sin no more:
Be saved, to sin no more,
Be saved, to sin no more;
Till all the ransomed Church of God
Be saved to sin no more.
4. E'er since by faith I saw the stream
Thy flowing wounds supply,
Redeeming love has been my theme,
And shall be till I die:
And shall be till I die,
And shall be till I die;
Redeeming love has been my theme,
And shall be till I die.
5. When this poor lisping, stamm'ring tongue
Lies silent in the grave,
Then in a nobler, sweeter song
I'll sing Thy pow'r to save:
I'll sing Thy pow'r to save,
I'll sing Thy pow'r to save;
Then in a nobler, sweeter song
I'll sing Thy pow'r to save.
