KEY VERSE

"He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son." - 1 John 5:10 (KJV)

DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE

Unbelief is not just doubt, it is a serious spiritual offense. According to Scripture, refusing to believe God is equivalent to accusing Him of falsehood. That is weighty. God is truth itself; therefore, to reject His Word is to reject His nature.

Faith is the foundation of our relationship with God. When God speaks, through His Word, His promises, and His Son, He expects trust. Unbelief, however, questions His integrity, dismisses His testimony, and exalts human reasoning above divine truth.

At the heart of this message is Jesus Christ. God has already testified concerning His Son, His life, death, and resurrection. To reject Christ is not merely a personal choice; it is a spiritual declaration that God's testimony is untrue.

Belief activates life, peace, and assurance. Unbelief produces distance, confusion, and spiritual death. Every believer must confront areas of hidden unbelief, whether in God’s promises, His timing, or His power.

BIBLICAL OBJECTIVES

  1. To understand the seriousness of unbelief (1 John 5:10)

  2. To cultivate unwavering faith in God’s Word (Hebrews 11:6)

  3. To recognize Jesus as God’s ultimate testimony (John 3:16)

  4. To reject doubt and embrace truth (James 1:6)

  5. To grow in spiritual conviction (Romans 10:17)

  6. To develop trust in God's promises (2 Corinthians 1:20)

  7. To walk by faith, not sight (2 Corinthians 5:7)

  8. To honor God through belief (Numbers 23:19)

  9. To overcome fear through faith (Mark 5:36)

  10. To receive eternal life through belief (John 20:31)

BIBLICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF TRUE BELIEVERS

  1. Faith-filled (Hebrews 11:1)

  2. Spirit-led (Romans 8:14)

  3. Obedient (John 14:15)

  4. Trusting (Proverbs 3:5)

  5. Hopeful (Romans 15:13)

  6. Steadfast (1 Corinthians 15:58)

  7. Prayerful (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

  8. Humble (James 4:6)

  9. God-fearing (Psalm 111:10)

  10. Truth-loving (John 8:32)

ILLUSTRATIONS

1. The Broken Bridge of Doubt

A man refuses to cross a strong bridge because he doubts its strength, even though many have crossed safely. His refusal keeps him stranded.

Lesson: Doubt doesn’t destroy the bridge, it only prevents you from experiencing its safety.

2. The Ignored Prescription

A sick patient refuses medicine prescribed by a trusted doctor. His condition worsens, not because the medicine failed, but because he rejected it.

Lesson: God’s Word heals, but unbelief blocks the cure.

CALL TO REPENTANCE

Unbelief is not harmless, it is sin. It dishonors God and separates us from His promises. Today is the day to turn away from doubt and return to faith.

DEEP REPENTANCE

Search your heart: Where have you doubted God? His love? His promises? His power? Bring it before Him with sincerity.

PRAYER OF REPENTANCE

Lord God,

I confess that I have doubted You. I have questioned Your Word and Your truth. Forgive me for every form of unbelief. Cleanse my heart and renew my faith. Help me to trust You fully and walk in Your truth. I believe Your Word, and I receive Your Son, Jesus Christ.

Amen.

HYMN

Trust and Obey
John H. Sammis (lyrics) & Daniel B. Towner (music)

Message: A hymn emphasizing total trust in God and obedience to His Word as the path to blessing and peace.

1. When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.

Refrain:

Trust and obey,
for there's no other way
to be happy in Jesus,
but to trust and obey.

2. Not a burden we bear,
not a sorrow we share,
but our toil he doth richly repay;
not a grief or a loss,
not a frown or a cross,
but is blest if we trust and obey.

3. But we never can prove
the delights of his love
until all on the altar we lay;
for the favor he shows,
for the joy he bestows,
are for them who will trust and obey.

4. Then in fellowship sweet
we will sit at his feet,
or we'll walk by his side in the way;
what he says we will do,
where he sends we will go;
never fear, only trust and obey.
