THE PROOF OF LOVE: WALKING IN OBEDIENCE TO GOD’S COMMANDMENTS
KEY VERSE
“For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.” - 1 John 5:3 (KJV)
“For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.” - 1 John 5:3 (KJV)
DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE
The true measure of love for God is not found in words, emotions, or outward religious activities, but in obedience to His commandments. According to 1 John 5:3, love and obedience are inseparable. If we claim to love God yet live in disobedience, our confession becomes empty.
God’s commandments are not burdensome because they are not designed to restrict us, but to protect, guide, and establish us in righteousness. Just as a loving father sets boundaries for his children, God gives commandments to preserve our destiny and align us with His will.
Obedience flows from relationship. When you understand God’s love, obedience becomes a delight rather than a duty. Disobedience, on the other hand, is often rooted in self-will, pride, or lack of trust in God’s wisdom.
Jesus Christ demonstrated perfect obedience, even unto death, showing us that obedience may require sacrifice, but it always leads to glory. Keeping God’s commandments is not legalism, it is love expressed in action.
Therefore, obedience is not about perfection, but a consistent posture of surrender, where your heart says, “Lord, not my will, but Yours be done.”

Traffic laws are not meant to punish drivers but to preserve life and order. Ignoring them leads to accidents.
CALL TO REPENTANCE
If you have been living in partial or total disobedience, God is calling you back to a life of surrender. Delayed obedience is disobedience. Return to Him today.
DEEP REPENTANCE
Examine your life, areas where you have knowingly ignored God’s instructions. Confess them without excuse and surrender completely.
PRAYER OF REPENTANCE
I confess that I have not always walked in obedience. Forgive me for every act of disobedience and rebellion. Cleanse my heart and give me the grace to obey You wholeheartedly. Let my life reflect my love for You through obedience.

HYMN
Trust and Obey
John H. Sammis (Lyrics), Daniel B. Towner (Composer)
Theme: There is no other way to be happy in Jesus than to trust and obey.
1. When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.
Trust and obey,
for there's no other way
to be happy in Jesus,
but to trust and obey.
2. Not a burden we bear,
not a sorrow we share,
but our toil he doth richly repay;
not a grief or a loss,
not a frown or a cross,
but is blest if we trust and obey.
3. But we never can prove
the delights of his love
until all on the altar we lay;
for the favor he shows,
for the joy he bestows,
are for them who will trust and obey.
4. Then in fellowship sweet
we will sit at his feet,
or we'll walk by his side in the way;
what he says we will do,
where he sends we will go;
never fear, only trust and obey.
