THE EVIDENCE OF TRUE BIRTH: FAITH IN CHRIST

KEY VERSE

"Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth Him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of Him." - 1 John 5:1 (KJV)

DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE

The foundation of true Christianity is not merely church attendance, moral behavior, or religious identity, it is spiritual birth. According to 1 John 5:1, the unmistakable evidence of being born of God is believing that Jesus is the Christthe Anointed One, the Savior sent by God.

This belief is not intellectual agreement alone; it is a deep, transformative conviction that affects the heart, mind, and lifestyle. To believe that Jesus is the Christ means:

Spiritual birth (being "born of God") produces a new nature. Just as physical birth introduces a person into a family, spiritual birth introduces a believer into God’s family, carrying His nature, His love, and His righteousness.

This verse also reveals a powerful connection:
Faith in Christ produces love for others.
Anyone truly born of God will not only love God but also love fellow believers.

Therefore, faith is the root, and love is the fruit.

1. The Birth Certificate vs. Family Likeness

A child may possess a birth certificate, but the real evidence of belonging is seen in resemblance and behavior.

Lesson: Being born of God is not just a claim, it must be evident in your nature, actions, and love.

2. The Root and the Fruit

A tree does not struggle to bear fruit when it is healthy at the root.

Lesson: When your faith in Christ is genuine, love and righteousness flow naturally.

CALL TO REPENTANCE

Examine your faith. Is it genuine or superficial? Have you truly believed in Jesus as the Christ, or are you relying on religion and good works?

DEEP REPENTANCE

Repent from:

  • Unbelief and doubt
  • Mere religious activities without transformation
  • Lack of love toward others
  • Hidden sin that contradicts your confession

PRAYER OF REPENTANCE

Lord Jesus,

I confess that I have not fully believed and lived according to Your truth.
Forgive me for my sins, my doubts, and my inconsistencies.
I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.
Come into my heart, transform my life, and make me truly born of God.

HYMN

Blessed Assurance
Fanny J. Crosby (1873)

A hymn celebrating the confidence and joy of being born again and belonging to Jesus.

1. Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
O, what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

Refrain:

This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long;
this is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.

2. Perfect submission, perfect delight,
visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
angels descending, bring from above
echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

3. Perfect submission, all is at rest,
I in my Savior am happy and blest;
watching and waiting, looking above,
filled with His goodness, lost in His love.
