THE DEVIL HAS SINNED FROM THE VERY BEGINNING!
KEY VERSE
“He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.” — 1 John 3:8 (KJV)
DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE
Sin did not originate from man, it began with the devil.
In the beginning of time, before man existed, Lucifer rebelled against God’s authority and became Satan.
His nature became fixed:
A sinner, a deceiver, and the father of lies.
His agenda has never changed from the beginning:
- To pervert God’s truth,
- To entice man into rebellion,
- To destroy destinies, families, and nations,
- To oppose the purposes of God on earth.
Understanding this helps believers recognize that sin is not just “a mistake,” but a spiritual battle for the soul.
Every sin carries the fingerprints of Satan’s rebellion.
But the good news is this:
- Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil;
- To break the cycle of sin;
- To redeem man from bondage; and
- To restore the image of God in us.
To walk in victory, we must separate ourselves from the works of the devil, expose his lies, and cling to Christ who is our Deliverer.
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE DEVIL (AS SEEN FROM THE BEGINNING)
- Rebellious – He rebelled against God (Isaiah 14:12–15).
- Deceiver – He deceives the whole world (Revelation 12:9).
- Murderer – He seeks to kill and destroy (John 8:44).
- Prideful – Pride was his downfall (Ezekiel 28:17).
- Accuser – He accuses the brethren day and night (Revelation 12:10).
- Tempter – He tempts people to sin (Matthew 4:1–3).
- Liar – The father of lies (John 8:44).
- Enemy of righteousness – He opposes all that is holy (Acts 13:10).
- Author of confusion – He thrives in disorder (1 Corinthians 14:33).
- Oppressor – He seeks to bind and enslave (Acts 10:38).
Understanding these characteristics equips you to resist his schemes.
ILLUSTRATIONS
1. THE POISONED WELL
A village had a clear well that fed the entire community.
One night, an enemy poisoned it.
The next morning, people drank as usual not knowing death had begun to spread.
Lesson:
The devil poisoned the world with sin from the beginning.
Anyone who drinks from his system; pride, lust, lies, rebellion, drinks death into their soul.
Only Christ provides living water that heals and restores.
2. THE COUNTERFEIT GOLD
A young merchant was offered pure gold at a cheap price.
The glitter was convincing.
He bought it with joy.
Weeks later, the “gold” turned black, it was cheap metal coated with deceit.
Lesson:
Satan’s offers always glitter but they never last.
His temptations appear attractive, but they lead to shame and destruction.
Only what God gives is pure, lasting, and life-giving.
CALL TO REPENTANCE
Have you been entertaining the lies of the devil?
Have sin, compromise, anger, pride, or hidden habits crept into your life?
Today, the Lord calls you to break partnership with Satan’s works.
Turn away from every sin that connects you to the one who sinned from the beginning.
DEEP REPENTANCE
Say:
Lord, expose every sin that has hidden itself inside me.
Deliver me from the works, influence, and deception of the devil.
Purify my heart and restore my walk with You.
PRAYER OF REPENTANCE
Father,
I repent of every sin, compromise, and disobedience.
Wash me with the blood of Jesus.
Break every influence of Satan over my life.
Cleanse my thoughts, desires, and actions.
From today, I renounce the works of the devil and embrace the life of Christ.
Thank You for mercy, restoration, and deliverance.
In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE
Identify one sinful habit or compromise that has given Satan a foothold in your life.
Confess it.
Reject it.
Replace it with obedience.
Tell someone you trust so you can walk in accountability.
DEEP REFLECTION
Who is influencing your decisions, Christ or the devil?
Every thought, action, and desire flows from one kingdom or the other.
Think deeply:
Are you partnering with the One who saves, or with the one who has sinned from the beginning?
WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT
You are not helpless.
You are not weak.
Christ has already conquered the devil.
You are seated with Christ in heavenly places.
You are covered by His blood.
You are empowered by His Spirit.
You can walk in victory, now and forever.
ETERNITY IN VIEW
There are only two eternities:
- One with Christ in glory,
- One with Satan in torment.
Every decision you make today echoes in eternity.
Choose the path that leads to life, light, and everlasting joy with the King.
CLOSING DECLARATION
I am delivered from the works of the devil.
I walk in the light of Christ.
Sin has no dominion over me.
I reject every deception, temptation, and influence of Satan.
I am a child of God, washed by the blood, filled with the Spirit, and preserved for eternity.
In Christ, I have victory forever.
Amen.
PRAYER POINTS
- Father, deliver me from every hidden work of darkness, in the name of Jesus.
- Lord, expose every lie of the enemy influencing my life, in the name of Jesus.
- Holy Spirit, fill me with Your power to resist temptation, in the name of Jesus.
- Father, destroy every satanic stronghold in my mind, in the name of Jesus.
- Lord, disconnect me from every association that empowers sin, in the name of Jesus.
- Father, let the works of the devil be destroyed in my family, in the name of Jesus.
- Lord, purify my heart and grant me victory over sinful desires, in the name of Jesus.
- Father, strengthen me to stand firm in holiness, in the name of Jesus.
- Lord, surround me with Your fire and shield me from evil attacks, in the name of Jesus.
- Father, let Your kingdom reign fully in my life, in the name of Jesus.
PROPHETIC DECLARATION
I prophesy over your life:
You will not partner with the works of Satan.
You will rise in holiness, power, and righteousness.
The grip of sin is broken.
Every deception is destroyed.
You walk in divine authority.
From today, the light of Christ will expose every darkness around you.
Your destiny will not be hijacked.
Your mind is renewed.
Your home is secure.
And your eternity is guaranteed in Christ.
So shall it be, in Jesus’ mighty name.
