BUT THAT HE LOVED US!

THE WORDS OF TRUTH DAILY DEVOTIONAL
Feb 20th, 2026

𝕋𝕀𝕋𝕃𝔼:
BUT THAT HE LOVED US!

KEY VERSE

“But God, who is rich in mercy, for His great love wherewith He loved us…” Ephesians 2:4 (KJV)

DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE

The phrase BUT THAT HE LOVED US! is Heaven’s bold interruption in the story of our lives.

Scripture paints a clear picture of humanity, imperfect, inconsistent, sometimes rebellious, and incapable of saving itself.

Yet, standing between our past failures and our future hope is a divine interruption:

His Love.

God’s love is not a response to our goodness; it is the reason for our hope.

Before we prayed, before we believed, before we changed, before we deserved anything, He loved us.

This love restored what sin damaged, rebuilt what guilt broke, and reopened doors we shut by our own choices.

It is this love that followed Adam after the fall, found Hagar in the wilderness, redirected Jonah from disobedience, restored Peter after denial, and saved Paul in his ignorance.

The same love is reaching for us today, not because we are perfect, but because His nature is Love.

BUT THAT HE LOVED US! means:

This is the message of grace:

We live today not because we deserved mercy, but because He loved us first.

A potter once made a beautiful clay vessel.

One day, it fell and cracked.

The cracks in your life are opportunities for Him to shine through.

2. THE RESCUED SHEEP

HYMN

Love Divine, All Loves Excelling

Charles Wesley (1747)

timeless hymn celebrating the perfect and initiating love of God.

1. Love divine, all loves excelling,
Joy of Heav'n to Earth come down,
Fix in us thy humble dwelling,
All thy faithful mercies crown;
Jesus, thou art all compassion,
Pure, unbounded love thou art;
Visit us with thy salvation,
Enter ev'ry trembling heart.

2. Breathe, O breathe thy loving Spirit
Into ev'ry troubled breast;
Let us all in thee inherit,
Let us find thy promised rest;
Take away our love of sinning;
Alpha and Omega be;
End of faith as its beginning,
Set our hearts at liberty.

3. Come, Almighty to deliver;
Let us all thy grace receive;
Suddenly return, and never,
Never more thy temples leave.
Thee we would be always blessing,
Serve thee as thy host above,
Pray, and praise thee without ceasing,
Glory in thy perfect love.

4. Finish, then, thy new creation;
Pure and spotless let us be;
Let us see thy great salvation
Perfectly restored in thee;
Changed from glory into glory
Till in Heav'n we take our place,
Till we cast our crowns before thee,
Lost in wonder, love, and praise!

NOT THAT WE LOVED GOD!

THE WORDS OF TRUTH DAILY DEVOTIONAL
Feb 19th, 2026

𝕋𝕀𝕋𝕃𝔼:
NOT THAT WE LOVED GOD!

KEY VERSE

“Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” — 1 John 4:10 (KJV)

DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE

The greatest mystery of the gospel is that God loved us long before we ever thought of loving Him.

Humanity, by nature, is weak, wandering, sinful, self-seeking, and often rebellious.

Yet God’s love pursued us when we were unworthy, uninterested, and undeserving.

Not that we loved God” means:

  • Our love was never the starting point.
  • Our obedience was never the qualification.
  • Our righteousness was never the reason.
  • Our devotion was never enough.

God’s love is not reactive, it is proactive.

He did not wait for you to change before He loved you.

He loved you so you can change.

He loved you when you were broken so you can be healed.

He loved you while you were lost so you could be found.

God’s love initiates, sustains, preserves, and perfects every spiritual journey.

What you are becoming in Him today is rooted in what He decided about you long before time began.

This truth destroys pride, breaks condemnation, and births gratitude.

It reminds the believer:

“My walk with God is anchored not in my ability to love Him perfectly, but in His ability to love me unfailingly.”

BIBLICAL OBJECTIVES OF THE TOPIC

  1. To understand the origin of divine love.

  2. To reveal that salvation starts with God’s initiative, not man’s effort.

  3. To cultivate gratitude for God’s unconditional love.

  4. To break condemnation rooted in human failure.

  5. To deepen trust in God’s eternal commitment to us.

  6. To highlight the sacrificial nature of God’s love in Christ.

  7. To inspire believers to love others selflessly.

  8. To strengthen confidence in God’s mercy and forgiveness.

  9. To correct wrong beliefs about earning God’s love.

  10. To ignite a renewed passion for worship and obedience.

CHARACTERISTICS OF GOD’S LOVE

ILLUSTRATIONS

1. THE RESCUER IN THE STORM

A young boy fell into a raging river.

Unable to swim, he screamed helplessly as the water carried him away.

A passer-by jumped in, risking his own life, fought the current, and pulled the boy out just before he drowned.

The boy cried,

“Why did you save me when I couldn’t do anything for myself?”

The rescuer replied,

“I didn’t save you because you were strong, I saved you because you were in danger.”

Lesson:

God loved us not because we had strength, but because we needed saving.

2. THE FATHER AND THE PRODIGAL

A rebellious son demanded his inheritance and wasted it all.

But the father, seeing his son returning from afar, ran to him, embraced him, and restored him before a word of apology was spoken.

Lesson:

God’s love runs toward us before we run toward Him.

CALL TO REPENTANCE

Beloved, God’s love is calling you home.

Turn away from the sins, habits, and distractions that pull you from Him.

His arms are open, not because you are perfect, but because His love is perfect.

DEEP REPENTANCE

Bow your heart and acknowledge where you have strayed.

Lay before God every area where you have failed to love Him in return.

Allow His love to wash away guilt and rebuild your devotion.

PRAYER OF REPENTANCE

Father,

I return to You today.

I acknowledge my sins, weaknesses, and shortcomings.

Forgive me.

Cleanse me.

Restore me.

Thank You for loving me first.

Help me to love You with all my heart.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

IN THIS IS LOVE!

THE WORDS OF TRUTH DAILY DEVOTIONAL
Feb 18th, 2026

𝕋𝕀𝕋𝕃𝔼:
IN THIS IS LOVE!

KEY VERSE

“Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” - 1 John 4:10

DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE

The greatest revelation in Scripture is not that God is powerful, wise, or eternal; though He is all these things.

The deepest truth is this: God is love, and He has proven it unmistakably through His actions toward humanity.

In this is love!” It is not a feeling, an emotion, or a poetic expression.

It is a divine evidence; God initiating salvation, God pursuing us before we pursued Him, God giving His Son when we had nothing to offer.

Love is not defined by human effort but by God’s sacrificial giving, by His willingness to redeem, forgive, restore, and transform us.

True love starts with God, flows from God, and leads us back to God.

Human love is often conditional, emotional, and inconsistent.

But God’s love is unprovoked, unearned, and unconditional.

Before we prayed a prayer, sang a hymn, or tried to live right, God already loved us.

The death and resurrection of Jesus is the eternal proof:

Love is not a word; Love is a Person, and that Person is God expressed in Christ.

Therefore, to understand divine love is to walk in freedom, security, identity, and destiny.

BIBLICAL OBJECTIVES OF “IN THIS IS LOVE!”

  1. To understand that God initiated love before we responded.

  2. To reveal the sacrificial nature of divine love.

  3. To anchor believers in God’s unconditional acceptance.

  4. To transform our understanding of forgiveness and mercy.

  5. To restore identity as God’s beloved children.

  6. To strengthen confidence in God’s character and faithfulness.

  7. To break fear, guilt, shame, and condemnation.

  8. To inspire us to love others as God has loved us.

  9. To deepen gratitude for Christ’s sacrifice.

  10. To align the believer with God's eternal love agenda.

ILLUSTRATIONS

1. The Father and the Lost Jewel

A wealthy man had a priceless jewel lost by his careless son.

Instead of punishment, the father searched tirelessly, found the jewel, restored it, and celebrated his son.

Lesson:

God’s love restores what we lost through ignorance and sin

He seeks, He finds, He restores.

2. The Burning House Rescue

A child was trapped in a burning house.

A stranger risked everything to save him, suffering burns in the process.

When the child later asked,

“Why did you do it?”

the rescuer replied,

“Because your life was worth saving.”

Lesson:

Jesus entered the fire of sin's destruction to rescue us; not because we deserved it, but because we were worth saving to God.

CALL TO REPENTANCE

God’s love invites us to turn away from sin and return to the One who loved us first.

Repentance is not condemnation; it is the embrace of Love calling you home.

DEEP REPENTANCE

Lord, I acknowledge where I have wandered, doubted Your love, resisted Your call, or taken Your grace for granted.

I surrender every hidden sin, pride, fear, and rebellion.

Let Your love purge, cleanse, wash, and renew my heart completely.

PRAYER OF REPENTANCE

Heavenly Father,

I come to You today with a humble heart.

Forgive my sins.

Wash me in the blood of Jesus

Restore my fellowship with You and help me walk in Your perfect love.

Make me a new creation in Christ.

Amen.

WE MIGHT LIVE THROUGH HIM!

THE WORDS OF TRUTH DAILY DEVOTIONAL

𝕋𝕀𝕋𝕃𝔼:
WE MIGHT LIVE THROUGH HIM!

KEY VERSE

In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.” — 1 John 4:9 (KJV)

DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE

To live through Christ is far more than merely existing.

It is receiving the divine exchange at Calvary where Jesus took our death so we could share His life.

Humanity lost true life when Adam fell, but God, rich in mercy, demonstrated His love by sending His Son to restore what was lost.

To live through Him means to draw our identity, strength, purpose, wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and destiny from Christ.

It means we are no longer sustained by human ability but by divine life.

Jesus did not come only to make bad people good; He came to make dead people live.

This life is not ordinary human breath; it is Zoethe God-kind of life.

A life victorious over sin, fear, stagnation, curses, and darkness.

Living through Him means:

When Christ becomes your life, everything about you changes, your decisions, desires, habits, priorities, and destiny begin to align with heaven’s pattern.

This is the essence of Christianity:

Christ in you, empowering you to live for Him and through Him.

A man had a tree in his yard that withered for years.

One rainy season, he decided to water it daily.

To his surprise, within weeks the tree sprouted fresh leaves and began to bear fruit again.

Life returns wherever living water flows.

Christ is the Living Water

Any life, marriage, destiny, or dream revived by Him will flourish again.

2. THE BROKEN VESSEL RESTORED

A potter once dropped a carefully crafted vessel, and it shattered.

Instead of discarding it, he picked every piece and skillfully refashioned it into a masterpiece more beautiful than before.

Lesson:

Christ can rebuild every broken life into something better.

We live through Him because His hands rebuild what our mistakes have broken.

Anything outside Him leads to emptiness and death.

Today, allow Him to become your life, your source, your strength, your hope.

DEEP REPENTANCE

Come back to the cross.

Lay your pride, sin, anger, unbelief, immorality, fear, or compromise before Him.

Charles Wesley (1740)

A hymn expressing total dependence on Christ for life, refuge, and sustenance.

1. Jesus, lover of my soul,
let me to thy bosom fly,
while the nearer waters roll,
while the tempest still is high;
hide me, O my Savior, hide,
till the storm of life is past;
safe into the haven guide,
O receive my soul at last!

2. Other refuge have I none;
hangs my helpless soul on thee;
leave, ah! leave me not alone,
still support and comfort me.
All my trust on thee is stayed,
all my help from thee I bring;
cover my defenseless head
with the shadow of thy wing.

3. Plenteous grace with thee is found,
grace to cover all my sin;
let the healing streams abound;
make and keep me pure within.
Thou of life the fountain art;
freely let me take of thee;
spring thou up within my heart,
rise to all eternity.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE

Live today conscious of Christ as the source of your thoughts, decisions, strength, and actions.

Let Him live through you in at least one difficult situation.

DEEP REFLECTION

Are you living for Christ or through Christ?

One is effort; the other is grace.

Living through Him brings rest, victory, and transformation.

Transformed by His love.

You were not created to struggle through life; you were created to live through Him.
